Sep 7, 2016 - Sept 6 Fryeberg to Danville (52) and Sept 7 Danville to Wiscasset (43mi)

Sept 6 I will combine two days here because they were both so similar in the events. Actually, they were both just days of dreary, drizzling, cool weather. Not take many photos because we were on the hills, on the back roads, closed in by trees and focusing on the road. The road surface in many places reminds me of elephant skin. Gray, wrinkled and lumpy! No shoulder, well actually no predictable or reliable shoulder on the Maine roads, it phases in and out. Sometimes the road surface is nice and we can live without a shoulder, especially...

Aug 22, 2012 - Today we drove to Wiscasset, Maine for overnight

Today we traveled from Cape Cod to Wiscasset, Maine, which is on the coastline just off of Rt. 1. Travel up 495 and 95 was uneventful. Not too much traffic. We went through New Hampshire. I didn't know that New Hampshire came all the way to the coast! We purposely stayed away from the Boston area. Tomorrow we have only a couple hrs. drive to Bar Harbor. Throughout the Northeast it is interesting to note all of the towns with Indian names. I didn't realize how prevalent they are. The weather today has been perfect. Actually, it has been...

Aug 4, 2012 - Maine

The traffic from Concord N.H. to Wiscasset was horrendous. Turns out that this is Lobsterfest weekend - major highways and certainly two lane U.S. 1 could not handle the volume of cars coming to this part of Maine. I was happy to turn into the drive of my "home" for the next few days. Janet and I got together for dinner tonight and planned our itinerary for the next three days. On the way back I got the tour of the old whaling captains Victorian style homes. The Wiscasset Library happens to be on the same street. Janet was the librarian...

Oct 12, 2008 - Wiscasset, ME

Sunday, October 12, 2008 Wiscasset, Maine We have had another wonderful day here along the coast of Maine. We left home to travel over to Owl’s Head Baptist Church which is a church some friends of ours from Colorado Springs attended the winter they spent out here. Tom and Trudy Hampton so enjoyed their months of living here a few years back. We drove past the home they rented…right across a little gravel street from the water. I can only imagine how wonderful it was to awaken each morning to the sunrise over the islands with the Atlantic...

Oct 11, 2008 - Wiscasset, ME

Saturday, October 11, 2008 Wiscasset, Maine We were up and on the road … not early, but in a timely way by 10:30am. We both really hated to leave this campground and the beauty and solitude of it. But, we need to head on. Once again, the color of the leaves had intensified overnight as we drove along the same road for the third day in a row! It was beginning to feel very familiar now. When we had traveled for about 45 minutes, we arrived at the town of Searsport where there were BIG doings…the Fall Festival in the middle of town.! We were...
