May 19, 2013 - Day 12 - Rome to Saco
I'm writing this while about halfway through our 8 hour flight back. We're both somewhat tired...but we had a great trip. Traveling with small backpacks turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made. It really made getting around easy. We didn't have to check our bags on our flights...so getting on and off was very quick and easy...and...we always had everything with us in case we needed something during the flight. Moving around from hotel to car to train was also very easy. No lugging suitcases up stairs...and trust...

May 8, 2013 - Day 1: Saco - Boston - Rome
In Saco this morning getting ready to go. Dee mowed the front lawn at 7:30! Yikes! Just need to get the garden watered now and we should be ready to go. We're driving down to Portsmouth and taking C&J Bus line down to Logan for a direct flight to Rome. Our flight leaves at 5:10 and we'll try to get some sleep so we can hit the ground running when we get to Rome at 7:30AM. Rachel is taking her last final today...then off for the summer! She's headed to Fort Kent for a week then off to Glaciecr National Park to "work" for the summer. We're...

Oct 10, 2011 - Saco, Maine
October 9 We got away early, took I95 south, stopped in Augusta to take picture of the state capital built in 1832. We arrived at Silver Springs Campground in Saco in time for lunch. We ate at the trailer, then went off to find the Two Heads Lighthouse on Cape Elizabeth. We took several roads but it was all very scenic. These lighthouse are also in my cross stitch book someday I plan to do them as well. There is actually two lighthouse situated close together, both are now private residences very well cared for with lovely yards. How cool...

Sep 18, 2011 - Saco Maine
We drove to Saco Maine to meet up with Kay & Marlin our dear friends from Alaska. This is the second time, on this trip we have had the opportunity to visit with them. We had a great time, in fact we did not get back to our RV until after 11PM, we are usually asleep in our chairs by 9:30 - 10:00 PM. We had a wonderful meal of Halibut that Marlin caught in Alaska last year, fresh Kale salad and corn on the cob. Kay & Marlin gave me (Mike) an early birthday gift of a Canadian Whoopie Pie, canned Salmon that Marlin caught in Alaska and some...

Aug 1, 2011 - From Shoals to Saco
On the first day of August, we moved out of Gloucester, bound for the New Hampshire-Maine border. This trip had seen a lot of Massachusetts and it was time to move on. We first tried to get into the Wentworth, just outside Portsmouth, but they had a waiting list, so we chose to take a free mooring at the Isle of Shoals in Gosport Harbor. There were several unoccupied when we came in. These soon filled with arriving sailboats. The place has an interesting history beginning with Captain John Smith in 1614, followed by indian and pirate...

Sep 18, 2010 - A Great Fall Day In Maine
Not sure if it's a good idea having an accurate thermometer inside the trailer or not, when I woke up this morning it didn't feel all that cold until I looked at our new purchase, 50 Deg. F. and the goose bumps broke out! Anyway, we were on schedule for a 9:30 AM departure until I got caught up with the two neighbours on either side of us, it was 10:30 when we finally pulled out on our 280 K drive to the Saco/Old Orchard KOA just south of Portland, Maine. It was a great fall day, sunshine and blue skies, and the drive down was uneventful....

Jun 15, 2010 - Saco, ME - Silver Springs Campground
The trip to Maine Sunday was short but wet. I still think we may have gone up the wrong coast and wound up in Oregon. It has definitely rained more than not so far. We are in Saco, ME at Silver Springs Campground which is a very nice Passport America campground with full hookups, 50 amps and great cable. Verizon coverage is good and the satellite was easy from our site. After setting up we took the short trip to Kennebunkport and just did some driving around and sightseeing. We first found Kennebunkport Beach and oohed and aahed over all...

Sep 18, 2009 - Drive South to Saco
We said good-bye to our Alfa friends and pulled out fairly early because we had decided to take the two-lane road from Ellsworth to Augusta to avoid the construction on Route 1A. We ran into a little congestion through Ellsworth but then it was smooth sailing…well as smooth as it can be on a country road in Maine. We pulled off once to get Foxy out for a walk and then we rolled on to the Maine turnpike at Augusta. We stopped for lunch at a rest area and were reminded how scarce real estate is in this neck of the woods; everyone was...

Aug 23, 2009 - Rainstorm in SACO
Today we got up and went to church at New Life in Biddleford it was a huge church. Brian was in his glory they had a fantastic praise group and the pastor did a great service on love. Definately a church if you are in town to check out. After church we went to Verizon and picked up an internet card so that we can have internet all the time instead of relying on the campgrounds to have it. We just are finding so often they say they have internet but then you get nthere and it is so unreliable. We came back to the campground and got changed...

Aug 21, 2009 - Day at the Beach, Saco Maine
The last couple of days we have spent at the beach it has been just fantastic weather. It's been in the high 80's and the water has been quite warm compared to a few weeks ago. We've enjoyed going for a swim and just watching everyone enjoy the beach and good weather. Everyone says the same thing it's been a long while since the weather's been good. We are keeping a good watch on the hurricanes down south because we are going to be heading that way in another two weeks. We are't sure if the storms continue what direction we might take I...

Aug 21, 2009 - Hurricane Season Upon Us
Well we have just put everything away preparing for a storm warning coming through here. There has been a couple of tornados touch down only an hour away from in Norway, Maine. They have warned us about severe thunder and lightening due to come here shortly. We have already been hearing the thunder. It seems the storm is moving futher up Maine but over the next couple of days there are warnings all over this area so not really anyplace to move on to at this point. For us we just ask for prayers of safety for us and of course everyone...

Aug 19, 2009 - Saco, Maine
We arrived in Saco, Maine yesterday and I have to say it was one of our longest drives from St. Martins NB to Saco took us about 8 hours. It was very foggy and cool when we left St. Martins about 55 degrees but as soon as we crossed the border it hit at 85 degrees unbelievable. We didn't have any problems crossing the border then walked through the trailer and that was about it. We have to say the time in St. Martin's was fantastic we met a really nice couple Linda and Henry who we spent quite a bit of time with. It was really enjoyable...
