Sep 6, 2018 - L.L. Bean in Freeport

Rain was forecasted for today. It made it a good day to go to Freeport to visit the flagship store of L.L. Bean. Freeport is a shopping village. Parking was free, and walking was easy. We spent most of our time at the L.L. Bean Outlet store. We did visit the main campus which is huge. The main store is open 24/7/365! “Each year, more than three million people visit L.L. Bean’s flagship store in Freeport, Maine, helping fuel the company’s $1.6 billion in annual sales. And it all started with a man who was tired of wet feet.” This a great...

Sep 5, 2018 - More Lighthouses

The first order of business was to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Neither of us can remember when we last had the opportunity to eat there, but it's been a LONG time. Today was filed with WOW moments! The lighthouses were nice, BUT the seascapes were the hit of the show. We marvel at the rock formations. The coastal rocks here are very different from those at Acadia. Today, it appeared that we were walking amongst a fallen petrified forest. Our first stop: "Two Lights State Park is a popular point of destination for Maine residents and...

Sep 4, 2018 - A Day Trip to Lighthouses and Kennebunkport

We traveled south on Highway 1 going through Biddeford, Kennebunk, Wells, and Ogunquit. All of them could be day trips in and of themselves. Kennebunk and Ogunquit were especially crowded. We only did a drive through. Parking was at a premium with prices ranging from $10 - $20. The homes were worthy of magazine cover. Our destination was York Harbor to view the Nubble Lighthouse. Imagine our dismay as we arrived at one of the most photographed lights in Maine to find it wrapped in green netting!! Nonetheless, we were able to appreciate the...

Sep 3, 2018 - Travel to Saco, Maine

Today was a travel day as we moved south to Saco, Maine. We chose to travel north to Bangor to then travel south on I95. Traveling on a state route would have been a more direct route, but we thought it would be slower in the long run. It took about 1.5 hours to reach Bangor and another 30 minutes before we were actually traveling south. We arrived at our destination around 3:30. The campground is in a rural area. The property has horses, chickens, goats, sheep, llama, and ducks. There is a large section of seasonal campers. Our site is...

Oct 4, 2015 - Saco ME

We left Trenton under cloudy skies and it pretty much stayed that way with only flashes of sun on the trip south on I-95 to our new home in Saco, ME. The fall colors have finally started to kick in near Trenton, but are more muted down here in Saco. I hope that we won't be just ahead of the best colors as we head south. We picked this campground because friends of ours are working here for the summer. We met Benny and Marie back in June of 2013 when we were in Allendale, Michigan while we were in the process of buying this coach. They were...

Jun 18, 2014 - Downham Market to Saco

Chris and Anne are quite fortunate. They live in the British countryside about 40 minutes away from Lakenheath...so almost all of the people who live in their town are locals. This means they live very much like the locals...shop at the local stores...many in walking distance of their house...eat at local restaurants...and generally get a good sense for what it's like to live in the UK. The cool part is...his day job is working on fighter jets! I guess what I'm trying to say is that since they don't live on base or close to the base...their...

Jun 4, 2014 - Fly to London

We're packing the same way we did for our Italy trip...very light...just one small pack that fits in carry on and has everything we need for two weeks. It's so much easier to get around this way when using public transportation. No checked bags...no waiting for them at the airport...or...hoping they made it! The days before a trip are always hectic. Trying to get everything done around the house...work commitments...making arrangements to have Cedar taken care of. So once we finally hit the road it really seems like a relief. Now we're at...

Oct 9, 2013 - Atlantic Ocean & lighthouses

Pictures tell the story today. Will head south tomorrow. Try to see more lighthouses, stop in NH to buy postcards! And make our way to Boston. We know the government shut down will keep us from seeing the USS Constitution and visiting some of the historical sites but we'll do our best to see what we can and appreciate what our forefathers have done for us and PRAY for our current leaders to be committed to the people...for the people, by the people.

Oct 8, 2013 - Maine

Left our site at Gunstock Mountain Resort in New Hampshire fairly late. Check out was at 11 am. The girl at the office gave us a good scenic road to follow. She gave explicit directions to a trail on Rattlesnake Mtn to for really good photo ops. She knew it was a beautiful day to be taking pictures. We specifically asked about parking and she assured us there was a BIG parking lot! Bummer...it wasn't BIG and we couldn't get in with our trailer so we missed that great photo op! But we can't look back to what we missed when we have already...

May 19, 2013 - Day 12 - Rome to Saco

I'm writing this while about halfway through our 8 hour flight back. We're both somewhat tired...but we had a great trip. Traveling with small backpacks turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made. It really made getting around easy. We didn't have to check our bags on our flights...so getting on and off was very quick and easy...and...we always had everything with us in case we needed something during the flight. Moving around from hotel to car to train was also very easy. No lugging suitcases up stairs...and trust...

May 8, 2013 - Day 1: Saco - Boston - Rome

In Saco this morning getting ready to go. Dee mowed the front lawn at 7:30! Yikes! Just need to get the garden watered now and we should be ready to go. We're driving down to Portsmouth and taking C&J Bus line down to Logan for a direct flight to Rome. Our flight leaves at 5:10 and we'll try to get some sleep so we can hit the ground running when we get to Rome at 7:30AM. Rachel is taking her last final today...then off for the summer! She's headed to Fort Kent for a week then off to Glaciecr National Park to "work" for the summer. We're...

Oct 10, 2011 - Saco, Maine

October 9 We got away early, took I95 south, stopped in Augusta to take picture of the state capital built in 1832. We arrived at Silver Springs Campground in Saco in time for lunch. We ate at the trailer, then went off to find the Two Heads Lighthouse on Cape Elizabeth. We took several roads but it was all very scenic. These lighthouse are also in my cross stitch book someday I plan to do them as well. There is actually two lighthouse situated close together, both are now private residences very well cared for with lovely yards. How cool...
