Jun 23, 2018 - Hermit island

Today we just stuck around the island since it was overcast. Bill made a lobster salad with the claws and tail we had left from the first night. We drove up the island to a small beach where you're able to hike the rocky coastline. We hiked about 1.5 miles and got back right before some heavy rain. No seafood tonight.

Jun 22, 2018 - Hermit island

We had to change our campsite due to other reservations and lost our great view. We could still hear the ocean and a buoy ringing. We had to try to find a dump station and drove over to Georgetown to find the Sagadahoc cg. The woman told us it was$50 to dump which was crazy but we knew we would need a place to stay Sunday night so she let us reserve it and go ahead and dump. Drove back and stopped at a grill and got scallops and a fried haddock sandwich for lunch. We stopped back at the lobster pound and picked up rock crabs that the owner...

Made it to Maine and stayed on 295 to bath, took 209 down to find seahorse lobster and the GPS took us to a house and an older man was coming out of his house. We asked him where the lobster shack was and he said follow me. Happened that he was the owner and showed us the way to his lobster shed.it was right on the water and we bought 4 lobsters for $40. Went on down 206/219 And found maybe the most beautiful campsite ever at hermit island at dw,62. Ate our lobster looking out over Casco Bay!

Jun 9, 2016 - The Farm

Twice last year, I drove to a campground near "The Farm", where my sister lives in Maine. Both times, she had to be in Boston for eye surgery or follow-up visits. Although, I was able to see my sister, she was barely able to see me or anyone else, due to her eye surgery. This year, I tried again. This visit was much more successful. Although her newly transplanted corneas are not yet fully healed, she can now see better than she's been able to see in her entire life. For years, she has wanted to walk in the protected forest preserves near...

Jun 28, 2015 - Phippsburg, Maine

I'm now in Phippsburg, Maine. Never heard of it? Neither had I. Part of the fun of travel for me is finding something interesting to do with no knowledge of what might be available. As has recently become my habit, after checking into the campground, I wandered around to the other sites visiting my neighbors. At this campground, almost everyone is a Maine resident. They loved telling me about the area. What I quickly learned is that Phippsburg is at the mouth of the Kennebec River, which has been important throughout modern times. I was...

Jun 6, 2012 - Meadowbrook Camping Area

Today was moving day, but fortunately only a short distance up the Maine Coast to Phippsburg. Friends Mary & Bob suggested we spend some time checking out Boothbay Harbor. So we'll do that over the next few days. It looks like Friday or Saturday will be the best days for that. We will be in this area for the weekend and then on Sunday we'll move inland to Bangor for a couple of days to collect our mail. On our way north today, we stopped in Freeport and checked out some of their factory outlets, but didn't succumb to any of their bargains....

Jun 3, 2011 - Phippsburg, Maine

Today we went exploring in Bath which is close by. We stopped at the Maritime Museum. The museum is located at a site that was a shipyard until 1923. Bath had about 25 shipyards building ships in the 1800's and 1900's. I am not real hot about doing museums. This one was a very good one. I liked taking a guided tour of the shipyard and seeing how they built them. They had tons of artifacts and displays inside the museum part and I didn't spend much time in there as it is not what I like. The last building we went into contained a bow of a...

May 30, 2009 - Phippsburg, ME camped over

May 30, 2009 camped over in Phippsburg, ME Today we went to Wal Mart for a new tire, however this particular Wal Mart did not have the size we needed so we had to drive about 30 miles south near Portland, ME, we ended up having to buy two tires as the checked out another tire that had a bump on it and found out it was no good either, well the guy was very nice and ended up giving us a discouNt of $115.00 per tire so we ended up with two new tires under $100. We left Wal Mart and stopped at a few yard sales and then stopped in the town of...
