Jul 14, 2018 - Colonial Pemaquid point

We took today off from hiking and went over to Colonial PQ historic site which is wonderful. A re-enactor fellow was at a cabin and he explained life in the 1640s as a fisherman. Right on the point where we could see the whole bay. Very interesting site that tells the story of the earliest American settlers. Stopped at Shaw's to buy lobsters once again. We had lobsters and corn and then got serranded by a group singing blues and country in the CG. Great way to end our trip to Maine.

Jul 13, 2018 - La Verne preserve

We woke up at 9 after the camper group woke us at 7 and leisurely got our coffee. By 11 we took off to find the La Verna preseve which is a great hike to the ocean. We fixed a pastrami sandwich and headed down the trail. Great trail that winds through forests and by stone walls to the beach. We sat on the rocks for about an hour and then headed back. We drove over to Boothbay brewery for a rippa IPA and a thirsty botanical both of which were great. We found Pollock, a fish we've never had at Hannaford and had it for supper. Very good like...

Jul 12, 2018 - Crooked Farm nature preserve

We're staying at PPcg for the next 3 nights so we decided to drive up to the preserve to hike. We missed the turn the first time so drove on to Pemaquid point lobster wharf and had pastrami sandwiches while we watch the boats in the harbor. On the way back, we found the right road and hiked about a mile near the Pemaquid river. Beautiful stone wall but lots of mosquitoes so we didn't do the whole loop. Came back to the CG to enjoy the quiet and read in the cool weather.

Jul 11, 2018 - Pemaquid Point cg

Another RMD- real Maine day! Sunny, temps in the low 70's. We only drove about 115 miles today but it took us 3.5 hrs due to slow, bumpy back roads. We made it to the Pemaquid point cg and got #33, nice and quiet all well spaced. This is a great little cg only 3 miles from Shaws lobster pound. We drove over there to have a beer, eat Pemaquid oysters and watch the lobster boats unload tons of lobsters. Since it's our 37th anniversary we bought 2 soft shell lobsters and brought them back to cook along with corn on the cob and Cole slaw. Can't...

Sep 27, 2006 - Driving to Maine

We drove to Maine today. We decided since we are this close we might as well take another day and see all the states up here that we can. So we drove through Vermont and New Hampshire before getting to the ocean. All these states have major roads that go north and south but small windy roads that go east and west. So we had to go north to go east, then south to go east. It took forever. The roads are super narrow and windy. At one little town we almost took a car door off with our bus as we drove by a parked car. We couldn't stop, they have...

Sep 8, 2006 - Boothbay, Maine

We left the mountains behind and headed to the shore of Maine. We had been in the mountains so long, I guess I just took them for granted. We saw them everyday whether it was from our campsite, or driving down the road. They were always there. So as we drove east, I suddenly realized I was no longer seeing mountains; the land was getting flatter. There were still lots of trees, but the rolling hills, and towering verdant mountains had disappeared. We arrived at our new "home" at Shore Hills Campground in Boothbay, Maine. It is next to...
