Jun 26, 2019 - Fogtown

A dreary rainy day so we headed south to Schoodic to camp again. We bought mussels and oysters at The Lobstore for our supper and then drove to Bar Harbor. Crowded and still rainy but we drove the loop to Seal Harbor and back up to Ellsworth where we stopped at the Fogtown brewery for their double IPA. We headed back to Schoodic for our own raw bar and corn on the cob. Forgot to say we stopped for a red snapper hot dog at Jordan's for lunch- tasty!

Aug 9, 2018 - A relaxing day

Today was a relaxing day, on this cloudy, rainy day all we had planned for the day was to be done in the afternoon. Being that this was our last day at the villa, we read and relaxed. The nice thing about a timeshare is that we do not have to pack and move every couple of days, and there is no set schedule for the week. Jean did a load of laundry and after folding our clothes, we packed our luggage. We set-up our small carry-on for the trip home so we would not be carting in the large, heavy luggage. (This is what we did on the trip up.)...

Aug 8, 2018 - Movie & dinner

Another beautiful day, a little cloudy and hot. We had a relaxing morning before heading out at 11:15 to go over to Bangor to see a movie at the Bangor Mall Cinemas 10. We saw the 12:15 showing of Mission Impossible: Fallout. The theater had the comfy reclining seats, but there were mainly on the floor, not stadium seating like Regal Cinemas in North Brunswick. It was a very action packed movie, as has been all of the Mission Impossible movies. It had me on the edge of the seat. And the settings used were breathtaking. The story itself you...

Aug 7, 2018 - Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park

Today was a beautiful day, and Jean was feeling better. So, we put out our towels for towel exchange, and took the garbage to the dumpster (there is no maid service, but they do a towel exchange if requested on Tuesday only), before heading out about 9:00 to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. It was a nice ride out to the island. We drove down the middle of the island to the very end and stopped at Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, took a few pictures, looking at the scenery, then we continued clockwise around the island before heading over to Bar...

Aug 6, 2018 - Monday blues

Today we went down to the breakfast given by the timeshare people. It was OJ and coffee and donuts. Jean woke up with a back pain, so she took a muscle relaxant which knocked her out for the day. I spent the day catching up on emails, relaxing and reading. For dinner I went and got a pizza and an antipasto for us to share. Then she was feeling a little better, so we played some cards and watched a couple of shows. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Aug 5, 2018 - Bangor State Fair

Today we attended the 9:30 service at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Ellsworth on this beautiful day. The church had a new preacher who introduced herself. She is their interim until a new pastor is found. After church, we returned to the villa for Jean to change her clothes. Instead of the Maine Lobster Festival, we are on our way to Bangor for the Bangor State Fair. We arrived and parked a little before noon and had to wait, because the fair opened at 12:00. We walked around, looking at the food booths, the animal exhibits, the 4-H...

Aug 4, 2018 - A Rainy Day

Today we were both up early because of adjusting to the time change. Unfortunately, there was no included breakfast. Oh, well. We left about 10:00 to drive back up route 1 to the village of Hancock to the Union Congregational Church of Hancock, which we had passed yesterday advertising a yard sale with books. First,we stopped at the rental office because I needed wifi. It is $15.00 for the week. Jean wanted to get the free newspaper (need those puzzles!). At the the church yard sale, I found a couple of books for the HMS Library...

Aug 3, 2018 - Travel day to Ellsworth, Maine

Today we are on our own, no more set schedule. We went down to breakfast at the B&B and it was really something. First they had a serve yourself section for cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea, cinnamon buns, bread, etc. On top of that, they served us a French toast sandwich (reminded me of a monte cristo sandwich) and a hash brown patty. A couple from Montreal sat with us and we talked about our travels when they inquired. When we mentioned that we had traveled to St. Pierre, they were very interested and asked a slew of questions. We...

Aug 1, 2018 - Schooner

We are on our way north to near Bar Harbor to meet up with friends from our RV days who are vacationing for a month in the area. On the way to meet Ralph and Cheryl we stopped in Camden, Maine and took a sail on a schooner. This was a unique experience for both of us.

Touring New England

Jun 5, 2017 - Ellsworth, ME

A first for me. I 'camped' at a Walmart. Quite a number of campers here and Walmart is very accommodating. Large parking lot, not very busy and lots of spots along the curbs. A good place to park and run the slides out over the grass. Did a little grocery shopping while here. Took the car and drove the perimeter of Mt Desert Island, home of Acadia Nat'l Park and Bar Harbor. Sharon & I had traveled this area before and done a lot of exploring so, with the cold weather, I was content to stay in my car. I did get started though on my lobster...

Sep 19, 2015 - Ellsworth, Maine

Ellsworth, Maine is where we call home this week, it is a little town at the intersection of US 3 and US 1, 17 miles Northwest of Acadia National Park and 27 miles Southeast of Bangor. Seems like a little town until you drive around and find the Walmart and realize that it is a large little town. It is extremely old in the old part and pretty new in the newer part. Went looking for lobsters to eat first night in and wound up at Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, believe Mary Ellen suggested this place. What is a lobster pound, well it is an old...

Jul 2, 2015 - Fort Knox

Fort Knox, named after General Henry Knox, our first Secretary of War, is located on the western banks of the Penobscot River in Prospect, Me. The fort is constructed totally of granite and building started in 1844. We have visited several old forts in our travels, this being the newest and built with granite, is by far the best preserved. The fort was built to protect Maine and the northern border as a result to several sea battles during the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. We were amazed that there were more than 100 large and small...
