Jun 8, 2018 - Boothbay Harbor

Fri., June 8th – Today was a very special day. First, the sun was shining most all day and we were warm enough to shed some of our layers. But more importantly, we were able to reconnect with one of my very special parents of two first grade boys I taught at Garden in Venice. Betty and Sewall Maddocks now live in Boothbay Harbor where they own a charming clothing store in this quaint little coastal community. Betty was such an amazing guide, taking us through the streets of town and sharing a wonderful lunch with us at the Fisherman’s...

Jul 17, 2016 - Boothbay...The Starfleet Groundskeeper?

We spent the past week in Boothbay, Maine....and every time I said, “Boothbay” I could not help thinking of “Boothby” played by Ray Walston (of My Favorite Martian fame). For those who are truly lost....it is a Star Trek – The Next Generation TV series reference...and I will just stop right there. Boothbay is a lovely, quintessentially Maine resort area. Lighthouses, lobsters, harbor tours and a beautiful botanical garden, Boothbay has everything that touristy Bar Harbor has but without the innumerable T-shirt shops, parking troubles and...

Oct 8, 2014 - OBSERVATIONS

I finally have time to give some final observations and views of our trip to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island after being home for a week. All the people we met in Nova Scotia (NS) and Prince Edward Island (PEI) were extremely nice, courteous and helpful. Our credit card never worked at pay at the pump stations, but someone always came out to tell us that our “swipe” card from the States would not work. They use “chip” cards as does almost everywhere else in the world. They told us to just go ahead and pump and then go inside to pay...

Sep 26, 2014 - lots of travel time

I am going to combine a few days because we spent a lot of time on the road. We left Seal Bay and traveled 3 hours to the other campground Deb wanted to stay at on PEI. Her quest was fresh sea food from the market we shopped at before. We first went to the Acadian museum to learn more about the plight of the Acadian people. Very interesting stuff. Off to the fish market---IT IS CLOSED. We nearly had a meltdown, but the very nice lady at the campground knew of another fish market that was open. Only 20K down the road. When we got there we...

Jul 10, 2014 - Sorry about that

So, as I was saying (before I so rudely lost my connection to the internet and an hours worth of updating, last night)After spending the night with Earlene in Vermont we drove to Autumn Hills campground on July 3rd to be near Russ's sister Margie in Bedford, New Hampshire. Had a great visit even if it did rain all day the fourth. Visited with Margie's daughter, Stephanie and her family. Our three days there flew by, so much to catch up on. Sunday morning we left for Boothbay Harbor, Maine where we camped for three more days. We went out...

On The Road Again

Jul 7, 2014 - Friends, Family and Feast

We drove to Vermont, our first stop was to spend an evening with Earlene, who was our neighbor at our home in Astor, Florida until she moved to be closer to family because of health reasons. Even though it's been many years, Astor just isn't the same. Earlene is soon to be 90 years old. She still loves her martinis EVERY night (since she was 23) and has a way of telling about her lifes experiences that makes you just want to sit all day and listen.

On The Road Again

Sep 9, 2013 - Trouble Again Staying on the Level

Our friends the Clarks left this morning to head west, and we headed northeast to visit L L Bean in Freeport. They are located in the center of town so we made some interesting turns trying to get to the RV parking which they provide. We had been warned that it is a little tight getting into the spots, and once you are in you park in a row and have to wait for the people ahead of you to leave before you can move. All this didn’t really matter as the RV parking was full, so after a couple more attempts to find a place to spend the night we...

Aug 6, 2013 - Boothbay Harbor, ME

When we departed York the seas were flatter than we can remember seeing them in a very long time. We decided to combine the next two day's trips and go all the way to Boothbay Harbor instead of stopping at a halfway point. Peddle to the metal! Sure burned a lot of fuel but we didn't care. The ride was so pleasant and we got here FAST. We can spend 6 days here instead of only 5 as planned. We'll be in Maine the remainder of our trip. We plan to visit Monhegan as usual and of course Camden. Perhaps we'll navigate the Damariscota River that...

May 22, 2013 - Southport and Boothbay Harbor, Maine

We finally made it to Maine! We stayed at Gray's Oceanfront Camping. We arrived around 11:00 p.m., delayed by making repairs to our gas lines, to rain and cold wind. We couldn't tell which way to go, so we followed the road down to the water--Oh so wrong! There wasn't room to turn around with the trailer, and besides, we had no idea where to go. Barbara looked all around trying to figure out where to go. Finally, the campground owner, Mr. Gray, came out and tried to help. He got in and took over driving the trailer thinking he could get it...
