Days 173 - 174 of The Big Trip On August 24, leaving "Where in the Heck-R-We Campground," we passed a plank road. The only other place we've ever seen a plank road is across the sand dunes west of Yuma, AZ, and it's defunct. This one appears to be used. A common sight all over the Northeast was piles of fireplace wood - some neatly stacked, others just in a pile. Again, it took us about three hours to drive 100 miles. Aug 24, 2008 - Moosendale

Judging by the reviews online, this place is just like Mountaindale in Colorado. After last night, we sure hoped so, and we haven't been disappointed. No mountains here, though, just moose that are big as mountains. I love the road signs that tell you to watch for moose. Makes me giggle every time I see one. The owners are wonderful. It's quiet here. No skeeters, but lots of fruit flies. It's that season.

Aug 15, 2008 - Abbot, ME

It was very foggy when i woke up, so I turned over and slept for another hour. By the time I ate, packed up, got gas, and made my way through Presque Isle, it was 11 AM! I had a pleasant drive down route 11, the logging road. I was ahead of an empty logging truck for a long time but I didn't seem to be slowing him down, he stayed back a bit and didn't pass when he had the chance to. Then I came up on a full logging truck and that became a slow drive for at least 40 minutes, as it was work for him to get up some of the hills. I blew by him...
