Apr 23, 2019 - Back in Louisiana

It looks like the weather in Kentucky is not favorable to us --rain. So, that being said, we changed our plans. We are headed east without any specific location until we land in Savannah, Georgia on April 29th. By the time we got to Monroe, there was not a lot of time but we did stop and eat at a cajun/creole restaurant on the Ouachita River. We had a nice meal. We also visted the Duck Commander/Buck Commander Store, known for the Duck Dynasty reality TV series. No, the bearded guys were not there!

2019 Summer and Fall

Nov 18, 2015 - A tourist heads back east

“He who goes out alone can start today, but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready” – Henry David Thoreau Having traveled as far west as I had planned to go in 2015, I’m now heading back east. My plan is to reach Florida by the end of the year. First stop was Nacogdoches, Texas. As with most of this trip, I had no idea what I might find in Nacogdoches. And, as I’ve discovered, there’s always something interesting to see. My first surprise was located at a bank downtown. It’s famous not for anything that’s there today...

Apr 8, 2014 - 4/8/14 West Monroe, LA

Packed up and headed for our free breakfast at the hotel this morning. Thankfully, the rest of the day went better than my bumbling around the self serve breakfast delights. Started by overfilling the self serve waffle maker and watching batter flow down the sides...followed by spilling a bunch of syrup on the table. Impossible to clean up with napkins! Topped off by not so great coffee. Took the edge off anyway... Traveled from Pensacola, FL to West Monroe, LA via the coast until a little after Mobile, AL where we headed northwest to...

2014 Southwest Trip

May 14, 2013 - Duck Dynasty, Catfish and Crawfish

Another great day with a couple of surprises. Drove to West Monroe for another try at getting inside the Duck Commander store. No crowds this time and spent a whole lot of money and sure hope the Grands like their souvenirs. Took a peak in the warehouse and who to our wondering eyes did appear? None other than Jase Robertson. We found him to be a very nice and polite young man. After my bride finished hugging him, he autographed our new book and we headed for lunch. We later discovered that he signed not only his name but the words "Hebrews...

The Gypsy Whaylands

Mar 11, 2013 - A Less Than Successful Journey

Sometimes things don't go as planned and today was one of those days. We headed for West Monroe, LA and Linda planned to walk into the Duck Commander office and ask to see "the guys". Unfortunately when we arrived at our target, there was no parking to be had and a line out the door. The last time I saw this many people, Caleb and I were watching Time Square on New Years Eve. It seems that they now have a store selling who knows what and we think today was grand opening. Those who know me can imagine my mindset at this point. Off we went to...

Our 2012 Travels

Jan 16, 2012 - West Monroe, Louisiana

On our way south, we came through the town of Benton, Arkansas. The "Home" of Wal-Mart! It is pretty obvious they are the presence here, even though they try to hide it! Since almost all RV'ers either shop or stay at Wal-Marts overnight, as a minimum, we thought it appropriate to acknowledge their home town! After several days of wandering, we decided to use a service we belong to called "Harvest Hosts". For a small annual fee, we are allowed to visit, tour and stay on the property of Vineyards and Farms throughout the US. It's a great...

Last night we stayed at the Movietown RV Park in Canton, Mississippi. We posted an entry for the map location only as we simply parked and read and watched TV. Today we drove to West Monroe, Louisiana after refueling at the Flying "J" in Pearl, Mississippi, located near Jackson, Mississippi. Traffic from Canton to Pearl we extremely heavy for a couple of miles due to a five car wreck, Last night Ross went to bed early and Marge followed about an hour later, just as some really heavy rain from thunderstorms descended upon us. Red Bay Factory Trip

Jan 25, 2011 - Canton

We drove from West Monroe, Louisiana to Clinton, Mississippi. A distance of about 180 miles. We refueled at the Flying "J" in Jackson, Mississippi and then drove another 20 miles to Canton, Mississippi to a campground called Movie Town. The campground is called Movie Town because Canton, Mississippi has been used as a backdrop for numerous movies, none of which I have ever heard of, let alone seen. We had stayed at this campground previously and there have been no changes. It is a relatively well maintained campground with long and narrow...

Red Bay Factory Trip

Jan 24, 2011 - West Monroe

Today was a short run from Gladewater, Texas to West Monroe, Louisiana. A distance of about 166 miles. We are staying in a campground we stayed in when we traveled to Nova Scotia via Red Bay, Alabama and up the East Coast of the US into Canada. This stop in West Monroe was not done on purpose other than is was a relatively short distance and it would break up the next two days of travel before getting to Red Bay on Thursday. As soon as we got off the Interstate we recognized the location and the campground. This campground has a rather...
