Apr 22, 2012 - Last Thoughts of Cajun Country

We had so much fun at the Cajun Heritage Festival. The food was fabulous. I tried crawfish etouffee'. When I was much younger, we would catch crawdads (crayfish, crawfish, etc.) and cook them up in a tin can when we camped. We also caught the big bullfrog polliwogs and ate them. I love, love the Cajun seasoning in the etouffee. We also tried some Cajun sausage poor boys. Really good stuff. Now about the traditional boucherie. They really are butchers. Apr 20, 2012 - Louisiana Folk Roots Heritage Festival Week

Friday was spent seeing the local color. The parishes of Evangeline, St. Landry and Acadia are considered the Acadian home and the Heart of Cajun Country. We lucked into scheduling our stop during the Louisiana Folk Roots Heritage Festival. Here in Chicot State Park the Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Celebration is being hosted. They advertise a traditional Boucherie, lots of music, jam sessions, food and dancing all week long. My high school french tells me that Boucherie is the butcher. Apr 19, 2012 - Chicot State Park

We drove almost 500 miles to get to our next stop. The traffic was not too bad and we whizzed through Mobile. I got a quick glimpse of the battleship USS Alabama. When I was stationed in Hawaii, I took a boat to work on Ford Island. Many times the small boat would motor past a battleship. I know that aircraft carriers are big, but for some reason the battleship was more imposing. The only office with windows that I ever had was in Hawaii. Jun 22, 2011 - Planning our trip

I am still awake at 11:50 pm on June 22, 2011 planning our trip to California!! Where do I begin I have the always reliable Frommers guide and of course ALL MY MEMORIES of the places in California I want to share with my girls ! But, the real question is WHERE DO I BEGIN !!! Got the plane tickets to get there.Got to rent a car to travel and decide where to go first and what to do and etc. !! Fun but overwhelmimg!
