Dec 6, 2010 - Eerie and exciting tour

Heading east out of New Orleans, we decided we wanted to get up close and personal with a swamp. We took a 2 hour swamp tour around Honey Island with a group and an informative guide. Our timing was not the best. Many of the reptiles have gone into hibernation because of the cold weather and the leaves haven fallen from the trees. Can only imagine how beautiful it is in the summer. We were lucky enough to see lots of "slipper" turtles (so named because when you get close, they slip into the water), several beautiful Blue Herons and even a...

Dec 3, 2010 - Want some sugar...Sugar?

What an interesting and educational day we had today. After seeing fields and fields of sugar cane growing around New Orleans, we called the LSU County Extension Ag agent in St. James Parish to see if we could spend some time learning about sugar cane. Apr 13, 2010 - Day 13, Thibodaux, Louisiana

Well, we decided to spend a 2nd night @ the same B&B. She (Joyce), served up an awesome breakfast, slept great (comfortable bed & quiet street), very clean, & very kind & geniune couple (Joyce & Frank). Spent the day today going on a bayou boat tour, saw alligator, turtles, watersnakes, blue herons & lots of water. Roland, the boat owner, has been a hunter, trapper, game warden, so he had lots of stories to tell of his adventures in Louisiana. He is 67 & never been out of Louisiana. Following that we went for a tour in the car, travelling...

Apr 12, 2010 - Day 12 Thibodaux, Louisiana

Took a scenic drive from Lafayette to Thibodaux, Louisiana today. Not as scenic as we had hoped but maybe better luck next time. Had a big crawfish feed for supper tonight as the place where we went did not spice them up like the place last nite. Name of restaurant we went to is....Bubba's II. Staying at another B&B tonight, a little bit more basic but price is right. Plan on taking in a "swamp tour" tomorrow a.m. & then maybe over for a plantation tour afterwards. Brian's in bed already as he didn't sleep well cause the B&B last night was...
