Mar 3, 2013 - Making Like Old People

A day of rest and relaxation. I spent some time remodeling my face and then we went searching for someone to trim my hair, but there was no one to shoulder the task. We have decided that God does not think it needs any modifications at this time. Lunch was boudin with cracklins for the vegetable. Dinner prepared in Skippy's kitchen and now we are watching The Bible on the History channel. Tomorrow remains an unknown at this time. Further reports will be posted.

The Gypsy Whaylands

Mar 2, 2013 - A Journey to Pecan Island

Today we took a five hour drive down the Creole Nature trail. Before reaching the trail we saw many crawfish farming operations with farmers forced to work extra hours since the Whayland Crawfish Machine came to town. Linda got some great pics of the process including the traps and harvesting boats. As we drove through the trail we saw lots of natural beauty but kept noticing extremes in housing conditions. Many homes appeared new or newly renovated while others were complete wrecks and others had travel trailers where homes obviously used...

The Gypsy Whaylands

Apr 21, 2008 - 2005 hurricane damage still apparent

We drove through what used to be the Holly Beach. Hurricane Rita didn't leave much intact. 3 years on and residents are still living in motor homes or trailers. A few are rebuilding homes on 20’ stilts. We saw devastation everywhere along with many other towns bearing scars. Business have been abandoned or are just not being rebuilt.
