Jul 4, 2014 - January through April, 2014

January 1st, 2014, we found ourselves in Shreveport, LA. We were only there a few days before we moved on to Marksville, LA on the 3rd. We have spent months here before in previous years and have made some friends, most of them at the Paragon RV Resort where we stay. We are always anxious to get back there to see our good friend, Dorinda and hang out with her when she's not at work, share puppy stories and get together for meals. This year was especially cold there, much more so than usual so we worked on staying warm too. Benny and I both...

Mar 27, 2011 - Marksville, Louisiana

We left Kinder this morning about 11:00 am, we weren't in any hurry, as we only had a short drive to Marksville. We were very excited to come to Marksville to stay at the Paragon Casino Resort. It is one of the top ten rated RV Parks rated a ten by Good Sam's. The resort is set up exactly like Kinder, actually the resort in Kinder is newer and probably used Paragon as a model. So, we were more impressed with Kinder, but Paragon is very nice! We surprised Mom and Dad by coming in a day early, they weren't expecting us until tomorrow. Once we...

Oct 16, 2010 - Beautiful Weather

Our experience with Louisiana weather has been hot and humid. Not so right now, it is warm and dry with no end in sight. We took full advantage of this by spending the day outdoors on our really nice, large patio. We took a break from this tough job when we went to town, found a post office and then a lunch spot. We chose the Catfish Bistreaux where Dan had a shrimp and catfish Po Boy and I had the crab cake appetizer. On the way back we turned into the Indian mounds historic site, but it didn't look like anything we haven't seen up north,...

Mo. to meet up with Rich, Carole, Robert and Celeste. I'm not sure if this country is ready for the traveling Happy Zone! Gary & Penny

May 8, 2010 - Lovin' Louisiana

5/6/10, Thurs. We headed into Breaux Bridge, LA about noon time and found it to be quite a small town. They have a historic district with some gift and antique shops, a few restaurants, and that’s about it. We were told about a Cajun plantation not far out of town so went there to find it. Turned out to be a great stop as they have a museum, a restored Cajun plantation home, and a replica of an Acadian farm. I love to see these old places and learn about the inventiveness of those settlers. Did you know they used Spanish moss to fill the...

Apr 13, 2010 - NKK Rally - Marksville, LA

We are here at the Paragon Casino RV park for the Louisiana NKK rally. After we got setup, Dave and Jan arrived and got the site next to us. Good to see them again. There are about 63 rigs here and the RV park is a very nice place. I wish all of them was as nice as this one and as cheap. Using Passport America, it is only 9.50/night. One night consisted of an Crawfish boil. The crawfish were huge. Almost as big as lobster and they were extremely good. There was a lot of eating at this rally and enjoyed meeting a lot of the Cajuns. On the...

Jan 5, 2010 - Where's the Warm?

After a very cold couple of days in New Orleans we struck out this morning to see central Louisiana. The winds have decreased, and the temp is expected to reach the low 50s. We crossed the Mississippi and made a stop at a plantation named Laura. The plantation buildings are well below the current levee, built in 1929. Linda will go on at length about this stop on her blog http://renewnotretire.wordpress.com/, and I will leave the details to her. I do caution you that she is always a bit behind. Anyway, from Laura we headed northwest,...

Oct 16, 2009 - Paragon Casino

Found yet another Casino RV park with 80 foot long pull throughs. $22.00/day, its $11.00/day if you have Passport America which we have. They allow you to use your Passport America for 5 days per month. The roadways and sites are cement with a 30x15 cement patio area and 10 feet of grass between sites. Full hookups 30 and 50A are at each site and includes cable tv. Great place to pull off the road for a few days on our way home. Tomorrow we will do some sight seeing. Marksville is celebrating 200 years as a city this weekend and we have...

From Just Back Off The Road Again (Map showing Marksville, LA) Had that “Itch” to feel the open road once again. We have been stationary since January 26…..Some 82 days, but whose counting!!!! So a week ago Wednesday; 4/8, we left out on a road trip to Louisiana and two Indian reservations and casinos just to “Scratch That Itch”. Home Sweet RV - 2009

Jun 28, 2008 - First Day

My long time friend and best man at Peg and my wedding, Dave, flew to TX on Thursday to be with me on the first part of my journey. On Thursday I learned that NxStage would be working with me on setting up dialysis centers to demonstrate the flexibility and portability of doing dialysis with my NxStage machine. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! They have me scheduled at 7 stops through July 11th right now. I will add them to my Tripit when I get the information. I was disappointed to find out that I was not going to be able to get the...
