Mar 24, 2019 - Livingston, LA

Out of Texas at last. We've made it through all the construction around Lake Charles and crossed the Mississippi at Baton Rouge. The Mississippi is supposed to be about 20 feet above flood stage here, but from the bridge 120 feet in the air, it didn't look too too bad. We're looking to hit Florida around April 1, so it's time for us to slow down a little, especially while the weather is good. So we'll watch the forecasts tonight and in the morning and decide.

Winter2018-2019

Apr 18, 2018 - Livingston, LA

Tuesday, April 17 - Overnight in Beaumont, TX Gulf Coast RV Park in Beaumont has the best complimentary chocolate chip waffles I have ever tasted! Breakfast is from 7:30 to 9:30 am and the waffle station has pre-measured Dixie cups of regular waffle batter and batter with chocolate chip! My chocolate chip waffles were delicious plain, no need for syrup, honey, jelly or any topping. Beaumont has 120,000 human residents and a billion mud bugs (crawdads). You see their 3-4 inch high mud chimney like nests in grass/fields. They live...

Spring Trip 2018

Dec 12, 2017 - Livingston, Louisiana

We begin this entry in Vidalia, Louisiana, right across the Mississippi River from Natchez, Mississippi. We reached here by continuing down US-61, the Great River Road through Mississippi from Vicksburg to Natchez, where we crossed the river on US-425/84. We had already explored Natchez quite thoroughly in 2011 (see our entry of March 12, 2011), so our plan was to spend our time in Vidalia relaxing and catching up. Our campsite at River View RV Park had a nice view of the river, so we could once again watch barges and cruise ships pass by....

Apr 12, 2016 - Travel to Lakeside RV park in Livingston, LA

We left Cypress about 9:20 after filling with gas at the Shell station on the corner. It took a while to get to I-610 due to traffic backup, but then everything opened up OK. There was just a slight mist off and on for a while but for the most part it has been a nice travel day. We stopped for gas and to have lunch near Lafayette. There are no rest stops in LA. We had to park in the gas station lot to have lunch. We made it to Lakeside RV park in Livingston, LA about 4pm. It is a nice park and close to I-10. We stayed here once before. We...

Apr 11, 2016 - Livingston, LA - Lakeside RV Park

Our trip from Foley, AL to Livingston, LA was 220 miles with almost all of it on interstate 10 and 12. Interstate 10 dips down to New Orleans while I-12 keeps going straight west and we will join up again with I-10 in Baton Rouge tomorrow. It was a good thing I checked the route Sheila, our GPS, was taking us as she wanted to go all the way down to the Gulf Shores, head west a few miles, then north again on AL 59/US 90 to get back on I-10. She had no idea that the Foley Expressway existed north of Foley or connected with the Baldwin Beach...

May 20, 2014 - Heading Back Home

...time to head back to lower Alabama - the beach, the gulf, and the bays are calling...and our granddaughter, daughter and son in law are visiting over Memorial Day weekend. We'll park the RV and motorcycle and get on the pontoon for a few days and have fun on the water! We liked the RV park in Livingston, LA where we spent the night on our way back. There are a lot of seasonal and permanent RVers in the park but the sites are very nice. The only drawback was we were parked near a busy highway that was just outside the park, so Fred said...

Today was a very rainy day with dense fog so we spent the day relaxing. Gene...

Dec 20, 2013 - Overnight in Livingston, LA

We had a relatively short drive of 175 miles to Livingston after we left Mobile. However it took us over four and a half hours to get there due an accident on I-12 which closed the interstate. Thank goodness for the 'Detour' button on the navigation which routed us (and everyone else) up north to Highway 190. We eventually made it to our destination in Livingston at Lakeside RV Park. It's a very nice park and we were able to get a back in spot right on the lake. There was a paved path along the lake so after setting up we walked around...

Oct 5, 2013 - Livingston LA

Today is 6 months since we left home – and while it has gone fast, parts of it feel like they were forever ago. When I read back through the journal and review what we have seen and done, I sure think we have gotten our money’s worth – well, maybe not, but we have had a great time. Today started with a little rain and we got rain twice while we were in Baton Rouge, but overall it has been sunny much more than it has been rainy. Tomorrow might be a different story, and that will determine whether we leave here and head east in the morning or...

Oct 4, 2013 - Livingston LA

We got an early start on our “Escape from Mobile” day. Naturally my start was earlier than my travel-mates, but all things considered she was way ahead of schedule too. We left the bus right at 8:00 to get some breakfast, then to go visit an old friend that we haven’t seen in way too long. We hit Cracker Barrel – surprise, surprise – and got a little grub in our bodies in preparation for our efforts to flee from the almost certain devastation of Tropical Storm Karen. We were in CB less than an hour and then it was off to visit our dear...

09Jan13 -We are booked at Lakeside RV Park for two nights. We plan to spend a day touring the New Orleans area. It was a fine mist most of the way, very overcast and cloudy. We arrived around 2:00PM, setup, lunch, Gene and KC are now napping happily in his chair! Looks like we are in for some heavy rain so we are happy to be settled. 10Jan13 - Not sure what today will bring as far as touring New Orleans goes because it is supposed to be stormy most of the day. We will see...may have to revise our plans. Well today brought rain all day and...
