Feb 24, 2013 - Kinder, LA
Our journey is taking us to a new state this trip. We are heading to Louisiana. Leaving Galveston and trying to avoid driving into Houston, we took a free ferry across the harbor inlet to Bolivar Peninsula. The Port of Galveston is the nation's only port where all facilities are coordinated under one management and the only major U.S. port facility not supported by public funds. Over 7,000 ships come in and out of this port annually so you can imagine a ferry crossing through all this activity, as well shrimpers and pleasure boats is no...

Dec 7, 2012 - Westward Ho
We're heading west and enjoying lots of sunshine and warm temps. We stopped and stayed 5 days at Coushatta Casino and Red Shoes RV Park in Kinder, Louisiana. It was a very nice RV park with full hookups, paved, level sites, shuttle service to the casino and only $20 a night. We didn't have much luck winning at the casino but had a good time trying. We always enjoy experiencing new things and at this stop we experienced 2 new things. The first was we watched a "roping" tournament. The casino had a very large enclosed arena on the property...

Nov 18, 2012 - Kinder, LA
Kinder is just a stopover before we get to Houston. We are staying at a casino, which like many other casinos offers an RV park because it is a way to get people into their casino. The real reason we are here is because it is very cheap and offers full hookups and a laundry, so we can watch some football and get some laundry done. The campground and the restaurants in the casino are a pleasant surprise. The campground is as good as any we have been at, although it appears to have an 'all business' aura. There are few trees in the campground...

Apr 6, 2012 - Kinder
On Sunday, November 20th we continued our travels West, stopping for a few nights at Wolf River RV Park outside Biloxi (yes we made a trip to the casinos), before arriving at Red Shoe RV Resort in Kinder, LA. We stopped here last year on our way back from Texas and had such a wonderful time that we thought it would be a great place to spend Thanksgiving. If you recall, the RV park is attached to the Coushatta Casino, and is one of the nicest parks we have stayed in. Lady Luck was with us and although we didn’t win any big amounts, our...

Feb 24, 2012 - Not A Real Great Travel Day
Kinder, LA 67 deg. overcast, N. wind @ 15 mph. Forecast = Overcast in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 61F. Winds from the North at 15-20 mph. . We left the Lakeside RV Park in Livingston about 10:20 and we only traveled for 3 hours, (covering 137 miles), but it seemed like we were on the road for a much longer time. You see, when we got back on I-12 which joined back up with I-10. There was lots of traffic all the way to and through Baton Rouge, and none of the drivers were being too patient. Once we crossed the Mississippi River,...

Oct 25, 2011 - 55+ Day
This morning I drowned a few more night crawlers and got a couple more bites. Tuesday is 55+ day so the Coushatta Casino was full of seniors for the free slot tournament and the 55+ buffet for $5.50, we both agreed that is was one of the best and tastiest we've had.

Oct 24, 2011 - "We Like It Spicy"
Bad need of catching up on laundry so we went into Kinder a small town about five miles down the road then we drove another thirty miles down to Lake Charles to get a prescription filled. We had lunch at a local restaurant Calles Southern Spice where their motto is "we like it spicy". Mary had the chicken fried steak she said it was probably the best she has ever had, I had a Cajun cheeseburger that cleared out my sinuses and then some. On the way back home we stopped by the L'Auberiege casino. There is a mini lake here on the property so I...

Oct 23, 2011 - Nicest Park Yet
A heck of a storm blew through here during the night but was nice weather for traveling. We traveled through a stretch of highway where there were miles and miles of huge nursery's. Mary drove most of the way while I kept myself distracted by practicing on the banjo. We are at the Coushatta Casino's Red Shoes luxury RV Park in Kinder, La. About forty miles north of Lake Charles. This is the nicest RV park we've stayed at since we have been on the road. Spent a few hours at the casino where I had an excellent time at the blackjack tables,...

Jun 21, 2011 - Cajun Country
June 16th, 2011 We finally left the triple digit temps behind in Texas and entered the high humidity of Cajun country. Following the GPS, we traversed two lane highways that meandered through lush forests and over dismal swamps. Nearly thirty miles had passed since we saw the last fueling station that provided enough clearance for the coach. Then the grand hotel filled the horizon. The Coushatta Casino, Grand Hotel and RV Resort covered acres and was flanked by a huge travel stop. Refueling questions on our departure were answered. I...

Apr 3, 2011 - Camping at a Casino
With no definite plans for the coming week, as we continued East on I-10, we decided to go somewhere else different, so we headed north out of Lake Charles, Louisiana to the Red Shoe RV Resort at the Coushatta Casino. We had never camped at a casino before, so this would be a treat. Camping fees were inexpensive, and I found a coupon on-line for two free nights camping, so hopefully this would be a week without many expenses…especially if we could increase our funds at the casino. The campground was great…we had an end spot which gave us a...

We left Port Lavaca by 9:00 am, we stopped and filled up with fuel before hitting the road; and paid the most we've had to pay so far...$3.79 a gallon! OUCH! We had about 300 miles to go to reach our destination; Coushatta Luxury RV Resort and Casino in Kinder, LA. This is the nicest place we have stayed to date;for many reasons. The RV spots are large, long and all pull throughs, nice individual yards. The amenities include, swimming pool, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, outdoor board, horseshoes, two playgrounds, a "no license...

Mar 22, 2011 - Spring Has Sprung in Louisiana
Today, was our first lesson on toll roads. We took the advice of a fellow RVer who said the quickest and least painful way through Houston this morning would be to jump on the Hardy Toll Road. We have always avoided toll roads in the past, but getting around the perimeters of Houston is not an easy task, so we thought we would try it. Right away, we were impressed with the toll road because it was clean and wide with hardly any traffic. We hit the toll booth about ten miles from where we started. The toll charge is based on the number of...
