May 2, 2013 - Cypress Bend

Cypress Bend RV Park is in Iowa, Louisiana. The town was so named because it was settled by Midwesterners, mostly from Iowa and Kansas. However, this tiny town is very Cajun, with all sorts of interesting items in the grocery stores. We aren't sure what half of them are, but they have canned items that are the size of large, 1 gallon paint cans! We selected this stop because it wasn't too far from our last one, and we generally like to drive for four hours or less. We belong to Passport America (a discount RV Park Club) and the location &...

Travels In Serenity

May 1, 2013 - Alleyton, Tx. to Iowa, La.

We drove from Alleyton, Texas, to Iowa, Louisiana, a distance of 225 miles. We are about 45 miles east of the Texas border, and not too far from the Gulf. The weather is in the 80's, and we will be here for about two days or so. Along our route we stopped at the last rest stop in east Texas, and at the first Visitors Center in Louisiana, just 6 miles or so inside Louisiana. These are two of the best and most beautiful rest stop areas we have seen in our two years of traveling. Here are a few pictures of our journey to Cajun Country! Mike...

Travels In Serenity

Nov 5, 2011 - Katrina Coast

Today was a sad day. Sue had to put Max down at home. He was diagnosed with a nasal cancer about a month or so ago and it finally got to the point that he was having a hard time breathing and eating. We’ll miss the crazy cat. We left Alabama and ended up in Iowa today. Not the state, but a town in Louisiana. Our route carried us across the boot heels of Alabama and Mississippi. I tried to stop at Manci’s Antique Club, a DDD spot in Daphne, AL, to pick up a takeout lunch, but it wasn’t open at 1000. I did manage to find a series of...

2011 Triangle Tour

Mar 6, 2010 - Kinder Casino

We decided to try stopping in Kinder Louisiana at an RV park associated with a casino on our way to Natchez. Mississippi. This was something new for us, but we are not sure that we will bother trying it again. Part of the problem might have been that it was Saturday night and there were a number of rental cabins close by with groups of young people who clearly were up all night partying. The afternoon was spent enjoying the warm sunshine. In the evening, we tried their Buffet where the highlight of the menu was picking up your own bucket of...

Apr 13, 2008 - Lake Charles, LA

Drove from 35 miles west of Houston TX to Lake Charles LA. I have never seen so much construction in my life. All the way through Houston on I-10 was one big construction zone. I am so glad it was Sunday, don't know how you could get through during the week days. Even after leaving Houston we ran into a lot of construction zones. Yuck. It was a beautiful day, temp in low 70's and no humidity but a little windy at times. We stopped about 8 miles east of Lake Charles in a little town named Iowa LA. The RV park is Cypress RV park and is...
