Apr 28, 2019 - Houma, Louisiana

Part 1: We had no intention of staying outside New Orleans last night. Sometimes we take what is available. The entire New Orleans area is very busy this week! This morning, we study the map. We have no interest in driving I10. We want to get away from the city. We head back south to Houma and the Louisiana coast.

May 3, 2014 - Cajun Man Swamp Tour

We moved a little further south and east to the little town of Houma, LA. It is a nice stop between Natchitoches and New Orleans(our next stop). We visited another part of the Jean Laffite National Historic Park on Thursday. There are actually six parts from Lafayette to New Orleans. Most of the history covers the Acadian people from France to Nova Scotia to Louisiana, with a lot of coverage to the deportation of the French Catholics from Nova Scotia by the British starting in 1755. Yesterday we took drive to Grand Isle. Grand Isle is a...

Mar 6, 2014 - Best Mud Bugs of the trip

Finally had crawfish from Hawks Restaurant which is located way back behind the end of nowhere, and they are still the very best. Well worth the drive and the cost. This year we enjoyed some amazing unscheduled entertainment as one of the locals next to us ate eight pounds of crawfish in less time than Linda ate four. His hands arms and mouth were in perpetual motion. Oh, the things that entertain us!! If you never ate mud bugs, you probably won't understand. Unfortunately we head for Texas Monday so a second Hawks trip may have to wait for...

No Snow For Us

Mar 5, 2014 - Catfish and Alligators

No entry yesterday because it was too blasted cold and rainy! Linda stayed in the trailer all day and I went out only when absolutely necessary. Wish I had taken some pics of the icicles on the trailer, but picture taking was far from my mind. Today was much warmer and we actually felt like we were in Louisiana. We took a drive to Houma for two reasons. The first was to return to Dave's Cajun Kitchen where we had a wonderful lunch last year. They did not disappoint us today as we enjoyed the best catfish ever to cross our lips. This was...

No Snow For Us

May 15, 2013 - A New Bayou Tour with food

Today we took a journey to Houma with no plans beyond going there. At the visitor center a very nice lady gave us the name of two restaurants and a map of the town which was far bigger than we expected. Next stop was Dave's Cajun Kitchen where the catfish was to die for and the lima beans made the palate cry for more. After the main course our super nice waitress explained that it was a requirement that all male diners consume a serving of bread pudding and I forced myself to partake of a fine culinary masterpiece and Linda stole three...

The Gypsy Whaylands

Mar 23, 2013 - Houma, Terrebonne, Louisiane.

Mar 10, 2012 - Three states

That's the plan. By the time our travel day is over we will have been in three states. After finishing up at Sager Brown UMCOR we drove just 65 miles to Houma LA. Our site is right next to the bayou and the alligators. When we leave shortly we will head into Mississippi and end in Alabama where we plan to meet up again with a friend we saw on the first leg of our trip. I am with cold today but have some medicine for it. We very much enjoyed working at the disaster center. They average 53 volunteers a week 52 weeks a year. In 2011 UMCOR...

Sep 27, 2011 - Houma

We arrived in Houma late morning on Monday 26th. We are parked in the Civic Center RV lot, 50AMP and water for $20.00 per night. After lunch, Tuga's grandson, BJ, took the three of us out fishing. I have no idea where we were except to say on some bayou. BJ knows these bayous very well and we had a wonderful afternoon. I caught a couple of red fish, catfish, black drum, and a crab. While we were fishing, Karen and Janet took a drive to San Francisco Plantation. This is the one we got rained out on the other day. Monday evening Karen made...

Mar 12, 2011 - Gladwater, TX

off to Gladewater, TX for the weekend the antiques are great to look at but my checkbook does not allow for the expense of them. But no one can keep you from looking, drooling and dreaming. Most of the things I would not want if they were handing them out free. the weather was great, game playing was above and beyond your comprehension. We had a great lasagna supper with all the trimmings boy it was good. It was a great weekend with our camping buddies.
