Aug 29, 2018 - Henderson, AL

Wed, 29 Aug: A rainy road day... We were up early to the sound of distant thunder. The forecast for Pensacola was for thunderstorms in the morning. Thankfully, they didn't materialize and we got ready for the road under cloudy skies, but nothing wet. We said our goodbyes to our hosts Carolyn and Al. They were generous to a fault and we are very appreciative for their hospitality and friendship. Bob pulled Carpe Diem out of their driveway at half past eight and drove 9½ miles to a nearby station that sold diesel and was large enough...

2018 Travels

Apr 30, 2016 - Atchafalaya Basin and A Rock Star

2016-05-01. Atchafalaya Basin and Paul Simon After the tornado warning lapsed, the sun sort of came out yesterday and we decided to go to McGees Landing for dinner; a spot that had been recommended by a woman we met while on the Swamp Tour. It is located on the Atchalafaya bayou and wildlife management area but we had no idea what we would find when we got there. On the way to Breaux Bridge, I-10 travels on a long bridge for 15 miles over Henderson Basin and the Atchalafaya Wildlife Refuge and from McGees Landing, you could see I-10 in the...

Mar 25, 2013 - Henderson, Louisiana (Cajun Palms RV Resort)

March 25 - 27/13 Mike and I headed towards Henderson, Louisiana on I-10, to stay at the Cajun Palms RV Resort, A nice cool day to travel. Spent the day in Lafayette, Louisiana geocaching getting different counties and older dated caches. March 27, travelled east to Baton Rouge to look for caches there. Mike picked two cache sites close together at the State Capital building of Louisiana. One of the caches was on the grounds of Old Arsenal Museum in the Arsenal Park. Then we walked around Arsenal Park to get the second one. There were a few...

Mar 19, 2013 - McGees Landing Swamp Tour

Today a group of us from Fulltimers Rally decided to tour and have a great lunch followed by the neatest boat ride known as a SWAMP BOAT RIDE. The McGee's Atchafalaya Basin Swamp Tours. This is an adventure through moss-draped trees, where graceful lingering alligators live. Aboard one of McGee’s sightseeing boats our trip took us into the interior of one of America’s greatest river swamps. The tour guide explained from his personal experience, what it is like to live on a house boat or stilt house and live off the land... all while...

Mar 9, 2013 - A day of Discovery

Today was a day of preventative maintenance on the trailer, laundry, organization and discovery. We found a new restaurant/dive that fits our requirements. Don't look like much, but the food is really good. The butcher at one of our stops earlier in the week told us about it and he was right on. Linda had shrimp and some alligator and frog legs appeared on my plate. Chicken on the Bayou is definitely worth a stop for any tourist, but it was filled with locals.

The Gypsy Whaylands

Apr 25, 2011 - Henderson will be our home for the next two weeks

We have moved to Henderson, LA where we will spend the next two weeks attending three different festivals and exploring the Cajun culture and history and the huge Atchafalaya Swamp. This move was only about 100 miles and all on I-10 until we turned south at exit 121 into the Frenchman’s Wilderness Campground and RV Park. This place is like a park with lots of space between sites – great! I-10 was a lot smoother than we expected until we got to Lafayette and then it turned to concrete and got a little rough – OK, a lot rough. So, no real...

Dec 7, 2009 - Weather Woes & Catch Up

From Cajun Palms Resort – Henderson, LA Sorry for the lapse of time since the post of 12/3. Since last I communicated with you, we moved another 165 miles West on I-10 (Exit 115) to Henderson, LA. Most would say; like I have in this post, they were in Breaux Bridge not Henderson because of its small size and unfamiliarity to most travelers. Cajun Palms Resort has been our home base since Friday; 12/4. It was a good thing we left early on Friday to travel and thereby were set up just shortly after noon. The weather was beginning to...

Home Sweet RV - 2009

Jun 18, 2009 - Hot and humid Louisiana

Early morning found me having coffee under the trees, in the mist, watching a herd of deer. When they left we did too, heading for Louisiana. It was a traffic-free drive into Louisiana. The quiet road to the park very scenis as it is between the levee and the bayou. We had stayed in Lake Fausse Pointe State Park in early Spring and loved it so we arrived at this destination at lunchtime. Good thing too. I had forgotten it was Father's day weekend and the park was filling up fast. We settled at our favorite site, the one with the deck...
