Dec 29, 2017 - On the road again......

We started the day just west of Nashville and continued thru Tennessee into Mississippi. It was a beautiful day for driving, 54 and sunny. The MS welcome center is always a fun stop-looks more like a cozy living room and the staff very friendly. Then it was on to LA before stopping for the night- camping in a hotel! Tomorrow we hope to be in Texas and heading south to warm weather at night. With the northern cold spell following us, the next few days it is supposed to be in the teens at night-a little cold for camping!

Jul 12, 2013 - On to Hammond La. and Big Wheel Diesel and Wrecker Co.

We are having a great time ..... really we are ..... yes, our patience is being tested...at least RJ's is...but we are still smiling...a little less in the wallet this evening, but it looks like maybe ... MAYBE...we have everything up and running... We drove due west into Louisiana. The Camping World store in Hammond said they had the part RJ needed to fix the tow...so I drove the ford, and he the rv, and we got to Hammond...as he drove into the parking area....the voltage meter on the dash went nuts...he had a new problem...now the...

Apr 10, 2013 - Day 7

Our Great South West Adventure has ended!..... My sister Denise has been admitted to hospital in Preston in England and will probably have to have surgery to remove a mass in her lower colon. I'm the only family she has so Albie and I are heading back to Safety Harbor and I'll fly to the UK as soon as possible. We've made it to Hammond LA driving on I-10 and I-12 (7 hours) and will be back in Tampa Bay either Wednesday or Thursday. I'll try to upload some of our photos when I get back.

Mar 26, 2013 - Beau mardi

May 18, 2012 - Traveling

Finally leaving Ocala, repairs successfully completed, we really made some time up, and as per our usual stops for the evening, we looked for a Walmart, a rest area on the highway, or a truck stop. In this case we needed fuel and Flying J had that, and a spot that we could just pull straight into, along side all the 18 wheelers in the lot. This spot was great since we measure almost 72 feet long, with the tow-car hooked up. Dinner at a truck stop usually is a iffy thing. some great, some well, you get the idea. This time it was a Denny's,...

Apr 12, 2011 - Hammond, Louisana

Hi Y'all or should I say Bonjour, mes amis! Well here we are in Hammond, LA in a little campground called Calloway RV and Campground. It's a very nice spot which has a fishing pond which you can see by the few photos I've posted. We're both fine but even the 4-5 hours on the road really poops us out as is evidenced by the picture of Rita right after we arrived. 8^) she's gonna kill me!!!!! We're only going to stay overnight and try to do another hitch at driving. This is the area where we switch from I12 unto I59 and start a more North...

Jul 3, 2010 - More New Orleans & Hammond, LA

Well, yesterday was sort of a “blah” day for us. The weather was kinda rainy (pretty typical here this time of year) and Betty had to work in the morning, so Kevin did a little laundry. After lunch we decided we would go to the 3rd (and last) casino on our New Orleans list, before the crowds got too bad. On the way back the traffic was so bad, we decided we would not venture back out and so just spent a lazy evening in the camper. One thing we forgot to mention – there is a music festival going on here this weekend and 400,000 people are...

Apr 21, 2010 - Hammond, LA

While we were attending the NKK rally in Marksville, Dixie RV brought 3 new coaches to the rally, hoping to sell one or more of them. We really did like one of them, and starting trying to deal with them, and the deal they was making us was a very good deal. But, with a lot of our money tied up until I turn 59 1/2, plus the large down payment they wanted, plus the sorry state of the economy, our financial advisers told us we did not need to make the purchase. We were disappointed, but understood that it was not the right time for a new...

Jan 7, 2010 - Flexibility, AGAIN

From Uncle Wally’s, Hammond, Louisiana, at the intersection of I-55 & I-12. Do you remember me ever mentioning that we were coming through Hammond, Louisiana, as we headed to our first real (conceding that Red Bay was more of a service stop) pleasure stop of our 2010 adventure?? Do you?? Nawwwww, don’t ponder any longer….you don’t remember it, because I never did do it. Why???? One simple reason…..I never envisioned that we would be anywhere near this far east in the Cajun Country. I have another entry in-process detailing all of the work...

We're Wingin' It

Dec 1, 2009 - Nov 24- Dec 23, 2009 Hammond, LA

Punkin RV Campground This campground is the the process of upgrading as it has a new owner. The place is starting to really look nice and the people who work here are great. The problems that I see are the that when it rains the sites flood and the 10 freeway is close and noisy. At this point I am happy we have a place to live and all are well. Hammond is a city on the I12 that is larger than we first thought. Being here for awhile we have had a chance to really check the place out and see what is here. The downtown is nice and has the...

Jellystone Park--Robert Before we leave anywhere Bob always checks the tires and other parts of truck and RV to make sure all is fine for the drive to the next place. When we arrived in Duson there seemed to be a problem regarding the RV tires but we didn't really know anything was really up until Bob did his pre travel walkthrough. He found that the suspension was tweaked and all was not well. We needed to get the RV to a shop so we nursed it to the nearest Camping World which is in Hammond, LA. Upon arrival we found that the shop was...

Jan 7, 2009 - Hammond, Louisiana

After two days of driving we are now in Hammond, Louisiana. (Last night we stayed in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.) We are very disappointed in the RV park we ended up in tonight here in Hammond. It is muddy, smells like the sewer has problems, the interior roads are full of potholes, and there is a lot of road noise. I definitely have to disagree with the positive rating our Travel Life Directory described. Oh well… we only have tonight and then on the road again towards Texas in the morning. Happy Travels, Rebecca
