Feb 23, 2019 - Duson, LA

Continuing along I-10 we stopped at Frog City RV Park. This park offered free dinner and free breakfast. We didn't take advantage of dinner as it was raining, like only it can, in LA. We did walk down for breakfast the next morning though and met a wonderful full timing couple from Belton, TX. We spent several hours visiting with them. This park is ok, but very narrow roads. Very nice managers/owners though. Duson sits in Acadia and Lafayette parishes in Louisiana, named after Curley Duson, land developer and a legendary sheriff of St....

Winter2019

Apr 4, 2017 - Bastrop TX to Duson LA

Day 7: Monday April 3, 2017 Bastrop TX to Duson LA We left Charred Oaks at 9:30 am (CDT) and headed east; our stop for the night was Frog City RV Park in Duson LA—near Lafayette. We went east on TX 71, then south on US 77 to reach I-10, our primary route. As expected we encountered heavy traffic as we approached Houston. We noted that Katy (west of Houston) has grown and now has traffic as well as large buildings. We took the I-610 bypass north around downtown Houston; traffic was moderate. We fueled in Orange TX—cheaper than LA...

Apr 6, 2014 - We're Back

After a pleasant drive we've left Texas behind and are back in Louisiana and you know what that means. Crawfish and Alligators!!! The forecast thunderstorms held off and we traveled to Hawks for another four pounds of crawfish , and being the dedicated spouse that I am, I helped Linda finish the last pound of hers. Destiny had three last walks in Texas this morning and two Louisiana walks this afternoon, with more requested but denied. Boudin is on the plan for tomorrow. Some other Cajun delicacy may be added, but no planning allowed in...

No Snow For Us

Feb 28, 2014 - Maiden Voyage and Mud Bugs

Started our day with a real concern about our maiden voyage for truck and trailer with neither of us having any experience with a fifth wheel. Surprise of surprises, hook up went perfect, truck, trailer and driver performed perfectly and set up at our campsite in Duson, LA. was no problem whatsoever. We can now accomplish in 30 minutes what experienced campers can do in 10. To say that we are pleased with our new rig would be a serious understatement. This has been a great use of our daughters' inheritance! The only delay in our journey was...

No Snow For Us

Jun 3, 2013 - Lafayette and Crowley

Yesterday night and morning it rained, pretty good amount, so we stayed at the Eagle until early afternoon to see if it would clear up. We drove to Lafayette and saw the Jean LaFitte NPS museum. It has the same film as the one in Eunice but has a larger museum about the Acadian culture. We then visited the visitor center and walked a boardwalk outside and saw turtles in the pond below it. The Scott area is Boudin country. We stopped at Don's Specialty Meats and found all meats Cajun. I bought some boudin and had it for supper, Ray wouldn't...

2013 trips

Jun 1, 2013 - Acadian Cultural Ctr Eunice

We arrived in Duson yesterday, it's about 10 miles west of Lafayette in the heart of Cajun country. We see signs everywhere for boudin, will get some before we leave. Today we drove to Eunice past rice fields and crawfish ponds. The water is very shallow and traps are set to catch the crawfish who crawl into them. The season is just about over. The park ranger explained the crawfish crawl out of the mud to find the bait and in about a week their shells become hard and the season is over. Many times the field is then converted to rice. We...

Feb 26, 2013 - Traveling to Sunshine and some Gooood Food

At last we have a sunny day after an early start and a windy drive. We are in a very nice campground without the waterfront property of the last. Since we got here early, we took on the daunting task of finding some crawfish for lunch. We took a short trip to Breaux Bridge, the crawfish capitol of the world, and found a little dive named "Crazy Bout Crawfish" where the interior decor was a bit of everything including a ceiling where the acoustic panels were business cards and a sign asked that we not feed the waitresses. A friend had told...

The Gypsy Whaylands

Dec 17, 2012 - On The Road Back To Texas

From Frog City RV Park – Duson, LA We hit the road about 9 a.m. today and traveled a tad over 300 miles to our overnight stop in Duson, LA. The trip began with grey skies and then heavy rain the first hour of our drive, but then the rain stopped and even the last part of the trip had to bring out the sunglasses as it decided to make an appearance early afternoon. As I have alluded to, our departure from Gulf Shores came with bittersweet feelings since we had so enjoyed our stay in that area and the family atmosphere at the park where we...

Home Sweet RV - 2012

Oct 9, 2012 - Lafayette LA

Yesterday we started out cold in the Eagle. Due to a problem with the power company, the power to our part of the park was off until 1:30 and we needed the heater in the am. Ray turned on the generator for about an hour to warm us up. The sun was out and by the afternoon it was very nice outside. Today we made very good progress and spent the night west of Lafayette. I miscalculated and we didn't buy diesel in Shreveport, had to go the a non Pilot in Natchitouches and had sticker shock at 4.099 a gallon. The interstate was easy, so we kept...

Summer 2012

Apr 23, 2012 - Swamp Air Boat Tour

Hi All, We went on the swamp air boat ride and it was so much fun. It's amazing how those boats can ride over anything in its way and you just glide over all those lily pads. It was beautiful back in those swamps. We went into Bird City after the tour at the Tabasco Plant, if you look close you can see that the egret's are nesting. They say that over 20,000 of the birds nest here and come back to nest year after year. Check out the pictures and enjoy. We had a great day. I have some great videos but they can not be downloaded because they...

Apr 21, 2012 - Frog City RV Park

We really had a good travel day today no rain and mostly cloudy easy driving. Today we could sleep a little later then yesterday and it felt good. We stopped for fuel and it was only $3.90 a gal. I know it doesn't sound cheap but better then $4.25 a gal. We stopped to eat lunch out today usually we just stop and eat in the coach so this was a treat for us. When we went in the restaurant we started to sit in a booth but the sign said Drivers Only. The waitress said you drive a car don't you so Elizabeth said we drive a motor home so we set...

Mar 25, 2012 - Duson, LA

Well, we finally left Texas today after over 3 ½ months and have decided to head east along the gulf coast. We stopped at Frog City RV Park in Duson, LA, a small town just west of Lafayette, LA for 2 nights. Monday we drove south of Duson by car about 50 miles to a small town called Intracoastal City, basically an area that has a lot of fishing trawlers and oil service platforms. The platforms have cranes and other equipment built on flat bottom boats about the size of a tugboat. What is neat about them is they have these large tubes on...
