Jan 1, 2020 - Poverty Point Reservoir State Park (10/22/19)

We stayed one night here in site 15. It is a very nice park. While here we visited the Poverty Point World Heritage Site - "Centuries ago, when Stonehenge was built and Queen Nefertiti ruled Egypt, American Indians were building earthen monuments in north Louisiana. Hand by hand and basketful by basketful, men and women shaped nearly 2 million cubic yards of soil into stunning landscapes. The result was a massive 72-foot-tall mound, enormous concentric half-circles and related earthworks that dwarfed every other earthen monument site for...

Jul 7, 2014 - Are we there yet?

We spent the day driving, and driving...about 470 miles through Texas! The highlight of the day was eating lunch in Paris at the Eiffel Tower. :) Paris, Texas, that is. We drove through Monroe, where the Robinsons family lives (Duck Dynasty). That is a much bigger town than we imagined. We finally stopped at a campground named Poverty Point Reservior. What a treat! This place is gorgeous!! Although we got here late, the girls played in a water park area and enjoyed all the rabbits hopping around the park. Most importantly, the bathrooms are...

Apr 17, 2010 - Ameristar Casino

This morning was gorgeous again. We took our breakfast coffee and sat outside while discussing what our plans were for the day. Roger wanted to wash the bugs off the front of the RV and also wash the truck. I had a couple loads of laundry to do and I needed to catch up on the ironing. Sad to say, our chores took us until lunch time, but at least they are all finished now and we'll be ready for travel day on Monday. We fed Heidi early this afternoon and took her for a long walk so she would be all set for a few hours this evening. Then,...

Apr 16, 2010 - Doing The Tourist Thing

The weather here in Northeast Louisiana has been phenomenal! Every morning we wake up to sunshine and warm temperatures and it was back in the 80's this afternoon again. This morning we got ourselves around pretty early because we had plans to do the "tourist thing" today. First we drank our morning coffee while sitting outside in the sunshine. Then after feeding and walking Heidi, we climbed into the truck for the drive to Lake Providence, LA. It was about 35 miles to our first stop: the Visitor Center at Lake providence. The volunteer...

Apr 15, 2010 - Moving Day And A Brahma Bull

We had to pack up everything this morning because we had to move to another site in this park. It didn't take all that long, but it was a pain just to move down the road. We liked our other site, but I think this one is going to be better since we will have shade in the afternoon. It has been downright hot here in northern Louisiana, but I am not going to complain. It's nice to have summer start in March and, hopefully, not end until December. By the time we got all moved and set up in the new site, it was noon so there wasn't any time left...

Apr 14, 2010 - Poverty Point State Historic Site

Another beautiful day in northern Louisiana. We did our usual leisurely breakfast coffee time and then we got ready to visit one of the area's attractions. First, we went into town to drop off some mail at the post office. Then we drove to Poverty Point State Historic Site. Wow, who knew Louisiana had such a rich history. Around 1350 B.C. a highly civilized group of Poverty Point inhabitants left behind one of the most important archaeological sites in North America. They built a complex array of earthen mounds and ridges where they lived...

Apr 13, 2010 - Hanging Out in Delhi

We were nothing but slug bugs today. We slept in until almost 8:00 and then just sat quietly drinking our morning coffee and discussing what we wanted to do with our day. We were still pretty tired out from the travel yesterday so we decided to wait until tomorrow to go into tourist mode. After showers and clean clothes we drove the short distance into town to look for a grocery store. There aren't a whole lot of choices here. It's either Brookshire's or Brookshire's; the nearest WalMart is about 30 miles away. Actually, Brookshire's isn't...

Apr 12, 2010 - Travel To Delhi, LA

Today is a travel day and we have decided to go to Delhi, LA for a little rest and relaxation. Louisiana has wonderful State Parks and they honor the Golden Age Passport so half-price camping is also a big plus. We left Tyler around 8:30, drove 250 miles, stopped at a rest area for lunch and arrived at Proverty Point Reservoir State Park around 2:30. Louisiana uses Reserve America for reservations, but we haven't had good experiences with them and we opted to take a chance and hope we would find an open site. The good news is that we were...
