Apr 3, 2011 - Beginning Our New Journey
From Bayou Segnette State Park – Westwego, LA Arrived at this location yesterday afternoon and did not do any sightseeing after getting set up in our site. Instead we elected to get our “ducks in a row” as to what we were going to explore on each of our four days in this area just south of New Orleans. Have put the obligatory photos of the park and our site with this post even though the main story being told today is that of our new adventure that began today on our first drive on the Great River Road! Once our plans to spend the early...

Mar 27, 2010 - Crawfish & Oysters in the Crescent City
From Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, LA (just across the river from New Orleans) … We were up by 7:30 this morning. It was a gorgeous mostly sunny day with temperatures in the mid 70s … perfect weather for sightseeing. After relaxing with some coffee, we showered and got ready to go. Then we drove a few miles to Algiers to catch the ferry over to New Orleans. We crossed the Mississippi River on the Algiers Ferry which dropped us off at the Riverwalk area of the city. We intended to go to Café Du Monde first. However, the line...

Mar 26, 2010 - A Four State Day
From Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, LA (just across the river from New Orleans) … We had a beautiful day to travel today. Of course it would have been a beautiful day to spend on the beach too, but we had to move on. Note to self: stay at least 3 nights in a beautiful location like this. We got up at 7:15am and sat on the patio enjoying our first cup of coffee. Then we had a quick breakfast before getting ready to hitch up the fiver and hit the road. We had a couple extra items to do today, so it took us a little longer to get...

Feb 26, 2008 - New Orleans, Louisiana
Tuesday February 26...10:15pm No problems at the Walmart last night. We had a bit of rain overnight, but it was still 21C inside the motorhome when we woke up this morning, so it didn't cool off much. That could change though...they are calling for a cold spell for tonight. Our plan today was to make it to Black Bayou Swamp Tours, located about 60 miles from here towards New Orleans, which is about another 60 miles past that. We made it to the Swamp Tour place with no problems, but then found out that because we're in low season, the boats...

Feb 25, 2008 - Bayou Segnette, New Orleans
We really weren’t too sure about staying/going to New Orleans. It’s not easy driving a 50’ rig through metro areas and it gets a little more intimidating when places don’t have a sterling reputation. I think you can relate. If not, imagine driving your house and all your worldly possessions through an area your not real sure about and parking it for a few days. But in this case we really were almost forced to drive through New Orleans from Grand Isle to get anywhere east. So we did! We found a state park just south of New Orleans and on the...
