Apr 19, 2013 - Baton Rouge, LA - Farr Park Equestrian Center and RV Campground
We drove 286 miles from Blackwater River State Park, FL to Baton Rouge, LA. It was all on I-10/12 so there are just a couple of pictures - not much to see along the interstate. We are really in kind of a high speed mode right now until we reach California as it is areas we have seen before. I know 200-300 miles every two to four days doesn't sound very high speed to many of you but it is for us - we prefer about 50-100 miles a trip!!! :) We are staying at the Farr Park Equestrian Center and RV Campground not far from the LSU campus. The...

Feb 13, 2013 - Bayou Country
I was late leaving this morning because I had to make some phone calls and I did some work on my website. (One call to ICBC to update my motorcycle insurance took almost 40 minutes because it took more than 20 minutes on hold before I even got to talk to someone). So, I left early afternoon and roamed around Houston for what seemed like an hour and a half. I'm starting to dislike big cities with a passion! 12 lanes, jammed with all manner of vehicles, various highways intertwining and changing numbers, toll roads, ring roads...you get the...

Jun 15, 2012 - USS KIDD
After bowling and saying goodbye to our son, David and Randy we got into comfy clothes and off we went with Gwen, John and Aaron to see the USS KIDD. Below is some information regarding the USS KIDD found in the brochure we received onboard. Authentically restored, the USS KIDD is the only ship now on exhibit in her wartime camouflage paint, "Measure 22," used for the invasion of Japan. The combat colors caused thte ship to blend with the sky above the horizon and the sea below. The KIDD was launched February 28, 1943. She earned 8 battle...

Jun 15, 2012 - Baton Rouge - USBC Open
Tuesday the 12th found us on another road trip in the car, but this one was less than 250 miles - easy! Ken was scheduled to bowl in the USBC Open and we had been told by very reliable sources there was not a good RV park in Baton Rouge so we left the coach sitting in Bossier City and drove the SUV. Ken has two teams that bowls in the open and all but two couples was staying at the same hotel - that was a blast! We enjoyed the happy hours together and also hanging around the pool and dining. Most of us stayed at the Embassy Suites but those...

Baton Rouge was a touch and go; we visited the LSU campus which was very attractive with its large trees and Creole inspired architecture. Elaborate construction was underway not only on the Tiger Stadium but throughout the campus. A benefit run was in progress which added to the lively atmosphere along with a cool slogan posted around the campus, “Love Purple, Live Gold.”

Apr 3, 2012 - Baton Rouge, La.
Yesterday we left Lake Charles and drove 150 miles to Baton Rouge, La. We had planned to Dry Camp at a Casino but after driving through the city and finding myself blocked by construction I had two choices, Park unhook the car and back out of the construction or go the wrong way on a one way street. I choose the one and only correct thing to do I went the wrong way on the one way street and the look on the guys face sitting outside at the cafe was priceless. After all this fun we found the Cajun Country camp ground and checked in for 2...

Jan 9, 2012 - Henderson to Baton Rouge Louisiana
Another day on the road over to Baton Rouge. We got there in good time having traveled over miles and miles of swamp land. I swear, Louisiana is swamps, bogs, bayous, rivers, lakes and humidity. Not a great place for good hair days! Our RV park in Baton Rouge is right beside the Mississippi River, a place called Farr RV Campground and Equestrian Center. They apparently have lots of horse events here and accommodate rv'ers and the horses! We dropped the 5th wheel and drove into Baton Rouge to take in some of the sights. Managed to park the...

Nov 6, 2011 - John's Birthday & Baton Rouge, LA
Today is John's birthday. He phoned a classmate of ours, Anne, who shares the same birthday. He teases her about being his older sister, since she was born a few minutes before him, at the same hospital in Durham, NC. Anne has always been a special friend to both of us. ------ From Duson, we continued east on I-10 into Lafayette, LA, home of the University of Louisisana and the Ragin Cajuns. Boy, they take their football seriously. There was obviously a home game here yesterday. From there we traveled an I-10 bridge across swamp land that...

Saturn 1 - Traffic cone 0 Driving through a crowded construction zone today - in the right lane - going the designated 50 miles an hour- the person next to me in the "fast" lane freaked at the concrete barrier on their left and veered into my lane. I had no choice but to make contact with the orange cone on my right. No damage just orange paint on my car. Really ticked me off! Will be in Baton Rouge until Monday afternoon. I planned a built in day of rest today and it's been nice to just chill out.
