Yesterday we set out to drive to Sea Rim State Park, planning a stop on the way at the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge. But we all know what happens to the best laid plans of mice and men, to say nothing of Sam and Barbara. Started out fine with a short ferry ride from Galveston Island to the Bolivar Peninsula. That was fun! Anahuac was not. We told the GPS to take us to Anahuac Wildlife Refuge. It seemed happy with that information and gave us directions, which we followed, including 30 or 40 minutes on a gravel road which ended in a place saying...

Apr 8, 2014 - Welcome to LA!

Left Mary Ellen's after an ample and tasty breakfast; great visit with MaryEllen and Jim. Arrived in Dennis' home state of Louisiana,just a little wet. Leaving the rain and thunberstorms behind, we made it to Toledo State Park to set up camp, tap the wine box and start prep on our "gourmet" dinner: back packer's beef stroganoff. A moderate wind blowing over the lake should drown out all the snores tonight. The only lingering concerns are after effects from Fat Mama's tamales for lunch in Natchez.
