Nov 19, 2014 - Last day in Louisiana

11-19-14 Last day in Louisiana At 6:30 AM the temperature was 29 degrees. There was frost on the ground and it did a hardship on some of Pauline’s plants in her yard. It’s our last day here and I have a feeling some will not be sad when we go, at this rate they will be ice skating on the Mississippi soon. Today is the day to get the RV ready for a few months storage (better winterize it, too!) Need to get the oil changed, water dumped, and packed for our trip to Colorado. I took the Winnebago to an RV Service Center in Harvey, LA near Ama....

Nov 18, 2014 - The National WWII Museum, New Orleans, LA

11-18-14 Visit to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans Our normal routine now is to get up and have coffee and get online (thanks to Pauline and Jack’s modem which reaches us nicely) in the RV, then go into the house to get a shower while Pauline makes breakfast. This is the life, almost regret bringing such terrible weather with us. The day is actually sunny, but a bit chilly. Julie and I decided to go to the National WWII Museum located in New Orleans. According to Julie’s “Trip Advisor,” it’s the number one attraction in New Orleans....

Nov 17, 2014 - Fun along the Mississippi

11/16/14 Looking around the west bank of the Mississippi near New Orleans It was a wild night in the RV. We were in a thunderstorm that featured the heaviest downpour of rain I have ever been In in my young life! It was plenty windy too. It was the kind of storm that Julie and I wondered about our safety, just for a bit. It passed and we did get back to sleep. It still rained…hard, off and on all night. When I got up I fully expected to see lots of standing water but you could hardly tell it rained at all. The wind had stirred things up a...

Nov 16, 2014 - A mellow Sunday in Ama, LA

11-16-14 Sunday in Ama, LA Got up early and hung out in the RV till around 8AM. We both went into the house and got showers, then ready for our day. First order of business was breakfast at a place called “Dot's Diner” near the home of Pauline and Jack in Ama. It’s a nice little local family diner with great food and friendly service. They even had a few slot machines for us to put our money into. After breakfast, it was back to the house. The girls were getting ready to go to a Tupperware party while Jack and I settled in to watch...

Nov 15, 2014 - Beaumont, TX to Ama, LA

11-15-14 Beaumont, TX to Ama, LA Did the usual morning routine at Starbucks for coffee, online work, then tea delivery to Julie in the RV. The cold front that I thought we outran yesterday caught up with us this morning. It’s overcast and at least 10 degrees colder in Beaumont. Julie decided we should go out to breakfast at IHOP so we went and it was good…for IHOP. We later checked out a place she found on her phone that is called “Willy Burger” and as it turned out, they served breakfast. Next time. We got fuel, hooked up the Toyota and...
