May 3, 2013 - Shepherdsville KY
Today started kind of slow – no real reason other than we really had nothing thrilling planned in Louisville; our destination for the day. We left Grandma’s a bit after 11:00 and after only about 25 minutes we were parked in downtown Louisville behind the Louisville Slugger baseball bat factory and museum and made our way inside for a tour of the facility. The tour was a pretty interesting way to spend 30 minutes. They showed you the entire process of how they manufacture bats for every level of player from Little League to the Major...

May 2, 2013 - Shepherdsville KY
Well, we actually stuck to our plan for today. We got up, headed south on I-65 for about 20 minutes until we found a McDonald’s for breakfast and a gas station, then back on the road for about another 40 miles to Exit 53, then west from the interstate to the park. The park is not very big – only 5,000 acres – but within that relatively small area is the longest cave system in the world. They currently have mapped 400 miles of caves on 5 different levels and expect to add more to the total when more surveys are done. They know that there is...

May 1, 2013 - Shepherdsville KY
Greetings, from the Eastern Time zone - despite us going north, not back east. Strange, but once you get into the middle of KY you go back into Eastern Time which means we lose an hour. Would someone make up their mind? We have enough to worry about without trying to figure out what time it is. OK, enough venting. We woke up fairly early and once we got moving a suggestion was made - and it may have been by me - to hit the Barrel of Crackers around the corner instead of rummaging for something to eat here in the bus. Lucky for me, MB loved...

Aug 23, 2012 - Special Day
I finished working today and we'll be moving on Saturday morning. We need to hang one more day so we can get our steps fixed. We're getting tired of repacking the parachutes every time we jump out of Winnie. Today was a special day for Sue and I. We celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary with dinner at Tumbleweed Southwestern Grill here in Shepherdsville. The food wasn't special, but the dinner was. It's hard to believe we've been together that long, but time flies when you're having fun. We were supposed to go to Cirque du Soleil in...

Aug 20, 2012 - Rolling Roadblock
Not much to report today and only a couple of pictures. We jumped on I24 and several Kentucky Parkways and made our way to Shepherdsville, KY where we’ll be staying for the next 5 or 6 days. I’ll be working during our stay. The trip here was pretty unremarkable except for one strange occurrence. While on the Wendell H. Ford Western Kentucky Parkway, a nice limited access highway, we experienced what seemed to be a rolling roadblock. We were driving along at about 60 mph with little or no traffic to deal with. We came up on a small group of...

Aug 20, 2012 - Shepherdsville, KY - Grandma's RV Campground
It was an easy 85 mile trip from Lexington to Shepherdsville, KY just South of Louisville. It was a misty, drizzly drive but was all on interstate highways and we arrived at our campground without incident. We are staying at Grandma's RV Campground and have a 50 amp, full hookup, pull-through site with fair WiFi, good Verizon and an easy shot to the satellite. Saturday we went on a train ride from the Kentucky Railroad Museum in New Haven, KY to Boston, KY and back. Just before arriving back in New Haven we ran into train robbers on...

Jun 20, 2012 - On to Louisville / cheap gas and diesel
Wed 6/20 Today we moved up to our campground just south of Louisville. We traveled about 65 miles over long rolling hills and got 12.0 mpg running at 60! Maybe the engine is starting to get broken in? Being able to get a run on some of the hills certainly helped. We are at a KOA in Shepherdsville, about 15 miles south of the Expo Center where the Good Sam Rally is being held. As some of you know, KOAs are not our first choice, but we decided just a few weeks ago to attend the Rally and this was the only campground we tried that had a site...

Sep 28, 2011 - Arrived At Grandma's!
From Grandma’s RV Park – Shepherdsville, KY Did not get in a hurry this morning to leave as we only had 160 miles to travel. The drive was uneventful and we reached our destination for the next two nights just after 2 p.m. and were set up completely before Grandma woke up from her nap at 3 o’clock! A uniqueness of this park is that if you arrive before 3 p.m. there is no one in the office and a sign at the entrance tells you to pick a spot cause Grandma is napping and they will collect later………..so this is what we did! We have stayed at...

May 17, 2011 - Derby Mania
The Run for the Roses. The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports. It is the Kentucky Derby and the race just took place at Churchill Downs in Louisville on May 7th. We decided to visit the Derby Museum which is adjacent to the track. Art and I know very little about horses or horse racing and have never been to a horse track. But we’ve certainly heard about the Kentucky Derby so we decided to visit to museum to learn more. The museum was about 10 miles from our RV Park in Shepherdsville. Just like the Alamo in San Antonio, which was once out in...

Dec 29, 2010 - what didn't happen
Here's what DIDN'T happen today: • When Ken tried to start the engine in -4º temperatures, it sounded like it was full of marbles. • The condensation from our breaths as we packed the day before, formed a layer of ice on the wind shield so thick that we had to use a hair dryer to create some peep holes so we could see enough of the road to leave. • A strong west wind blew all the recently plowed snow back on the road creating foot deep drifts. • We watched the rain running down the side mirrors turn into icicles as the temperature began to...

Oct 26, 2010 - On The Road Again
We left Indiana around 8:00 am, amidst a very nasty wind and rain storm. In hindsight we should have stayed in Lagrange for another day but we were both anxious to begin our trek south. It was still mid-morning when we encountered a huge traffic jam and we were told that only about 15 minutes before, a big semi truck and trailer overturned on the highway. A couple of hours after that, all traffic stopped during a huge "wall of water" deluge. Scary doesn't begin to tell how we felt driving this day. I hope we never encounter anything near it...

Aug 24, 2010 - Grandmas RV Park
Arrived in Louisville, KY in our 5th wheel and left the class c in St Louis for major repairs. Will stay and visit family while waiting for class c to be finished and then back to pick her up. Love staying at Grandmas, nice and clean. Grandpa is pretty busy watching the dogs, if they pee on the bushes or their people do not pick up after them , Grandpa makes you pack up and leave. The dogs seem to know when we pull in and head across the street to the puppy walk with out having to be told. They have donkeys and tank likes to talk to them.
