May 6, 2012 - What's in Fort Knox?
Apparently there's an Army base there, but I couldn't get past the gates. I was allowed to travel up the road a piece and see the Patton Museum. I passed the famous white building that guards the country's gold, but there was no place to pull over to take a picture, even while staying in my car! The museum was all about George Patton's life, of course. I remembered seeing the movie Patton and found that they run it continuously here. It also talked about other military things like the ROTC program and other wars. I understand that there...

Oct 7, 2011 - Fort Knox, KY
We decided to stop by and check out that venerable old symbol of America’s gold on our way to our jobs at Amazon. Fort Knox has a lovely little campground and we stayed for several days. Just have to say that Fort Knox is an awful lot smaller than we had pictured in our “mind’s eye!” We had a nice restful few days to psych up for our next stop.

Jun 29, 2005 - NEW--Elizabethtown, Kentucky, United States of America
Well, my trip to South and Central America is now over and I am back in the United States. It has definitely been an enjoyable learning experience. I met lots of nice people, not only the locals but other backpackers from all over the world. I saw many amazing things from mountains to deserts to jungles to rivers to oceans. I was also able to see the United States from a different perspective and through the eyes of those who are not from the United States. People from other countries know far more about the United States than we, as a...
