Sep 12, 2012 - Paducah Kentucky
We visited with Mary Ellen and Ed until early afternoon so we got a late start from Olathe. Paducah (which is home to the National Quilt Museum) was a good half way stop. Kay browsed an enormous Hancock Fabrics store but didn't like the prices. Tomorrow it's on to Greensboro!

Aug 23, 2012 - August 23, 2012 -- Paducah, Kentucky
August 23, 2012 – Paducah, Kentucky This has been another lazy day. I did go to the Purple Toad Winery. With a name like that I couldn’t not go. They had a couple of fairly decent wines. I also filled up the car with gas and did a little grocery shopping. When I got back, I hooked up the car so that I will be ready to leave in the morning. I have an appointment at 8 to have the Blue Ox dealer look at the problem with the electric plug which runs the auxiliary brake system. Once they get that fixed, I plan to head back to Red Bay to see if...

Aug 22, 2012 - August 22, 2012 -- Fredonia, Marion and Morton's Gap, Tennessee
August 22, 2012 – Fredonia, Marion and Morton’s Gap, Kentucky I slept in this morning and then drove to Fredonia to have lunch at the Coon Dog Inn Restaurant. I was almost there when I had to stop. There had been a wreck on the 2 lane road, and it was closed in both directions. When they finally opened the road again, they were putting the pick-up on a tow truck. It looked like a pretty bad wreck, and there was an ambulance that left with its light on so someone was hurt. I finally arrived at the restaurant just 15 minutes before they...

Aug 21, 2012 - August 20-21, 2012 -- Paducah, Kentucky
August 20-21, 2012 – Paducah, Kentucky August 20 – I spent the day just lying around doing nothing. I heard on The Weather Channel that an 11 mile stretch of the Mississippi River near Greensville, Mississippi was closed to river traffic. I guess there is a real log jam of traffic at both ends of that stretch. They are busy dredging trying the get the river open again. The Missouri River is so low that the wreck of the Montana is now above water. The Montana, along with her 2 sister ships, was the biggest steamboat to ply the Missouri. It...

Aug 19, 2012 - August 19, 2012 -- Mayfield, Murray, Hazel, Land Between the Lakes, Grand Rivers, Kentucky and Dover, Tennessee
August 19, 2012 – Mayfield, Murray, Hazel, Land Between the Lakes, Grand Rivers, Kentucky and Dover, Tennessee Today I saw some really different things. The 1st was a sign in someone’s front yard. It was a professionally printed sign about 8’ square. It said, “Don’t steal. Our local government doesn’t need the competition.” I don’t know what the local government has done to anger these folks, but it’s obviously something. In Mayfield, there is the Wooldridge Monument in the Maplewood Cemetery. There are about a dozen members of Colonel...

Aug 18, 2012 - August 18, 2012 -- Cadiz, Oak Grove, Fort Campbell, Guthrie, Fairview and Hopkinsville, Kentucky
August 18, 2012 – Cadiz, Oak Grove, Fort Campbell, Guthrie, Fairview and Hopkinsville, Kentucky The 1st stop today was Cadiz. This is a nice small town with a really nice farmer’s market which was in full swing when I got there. The reason for going there was the decorated pigs which are scattered around town. I tried to get pictures of all of them, but I did miss a few because they were in places where I couldn’t stop because of the traffic. This is also a place where cruising is alive and well. On the 2d Saturday of each month from...

Aug 17, 2012 - August 17, 2012 -- Bandana, Monkey's Eyebrow, LaCenter and Bardwell, Kentucky
August 17, 2012 – Bandana, Monkey’s Eyebrow, LaCenter and Bardwell, Kentucky We had a pretty good storm last night. There were only a couple of gusts of wind, but they were only shook the coach a little. This morning, the house batteries hadn’t recharged so I checked the inverter. It had tripped and had to be reset. After that the batteries charged right up. The other thing that happened this morning was that my computer crashed. I finally worked my way through the instructions for restoring it. I was afraid that I had lost the blog post I...

Aug 16, 2012 - August 16, 2012 -- Metropolis, Illinois and Paducah, Kentucky
August 16, 2012 – Metropolis, Illinois and Paducah, Kentucky I got a late start this morning so I stayed close to home. Metropolis, Illinois is just 15 miles or so north of Paducah. It has self-declared itself the hometown of Clark Kent aka Superman, Lois Lane and all the other Superman characters. The local newspaper is the Metropolis Planet. The courthouse square is named Superman Square with 3 of its corners named Truth, Justice and American Way. Some street names also reflect the Superman theme such as Lois Lane, Metropolis Road, etc....

Aug 15, 2012 - August 14-15, 2012 – Paducah, Kentucky to Carbondale, Makanda, Anna, Mt. Pleasant and Buncombe, Illinois
August 14-15, 2012 – Paducah, Kentucky to Carbondale, Makanda, Anna, Mt. Pleasant and Buncombe, Illinois August 14 – It was overcast and threatening to rain most of the day so I just took it easy again today. I read a little, slept a little, did a few crosswords and generally was just lazy. August 15 – This morning I took my printer to Office Depot because I got a message about the print head being damaged. They told me this was not something which could be repaired so I bought a new printer. I also went to a Blue Ox dealer as I needed to...

Aug 13, 2012 - August 13, 2012 -- Paducah, Kentucky
August 13, 2012 – Paducah, Kentucky The day started off in an exciting way. My weather radio went off at 6:30 this morning. The warning was for an area just north of Paducah. Fortunately, the storm did not come this way although we had heavy rain. The radio went off a couple of times, but nothing ever materialized. It was rainy all morning and was overcast until about 4 this afternoon. The weather radio went off again about 4:30 – just after the sun came out. We are under a severe storm watch until 11 tonight. I know where the storm shelter...

Aug 12, 2012 - August 12, 2012 -- Southaven, Mississippi to Paducah, Kentucky
August 12, 2012 – Southaven, Mississippi to Paducah, Kentucky I got away from Southaven about 9:30 this morning. I had an easy run to Paducah where I’m going to stay for a few days. There are several things in this area that I want to see. One of the things I’m going to see while I’m here is the Superman and Lois Lane statues in Metropolis, Illinois. It is only 15 miles or so to Metropolis. I’ve been by it several times when I’ve been on my way to or from Lake Junaluska for square dance weekends, but I’ve never had time to stop. So, I’m...
