We are staying in a little campground north of Lancaster, KY. Today we visited Camp Nelson, a supply depot for the Union Army. They took over several plantations, the largest belonging to Oliver & Francis Perry and their two story 14 room Greek Revival home became the headquarters for the military occupation. It became known as “the white house”. The location was ideal, surrounded on three sides by rivers and high rocky “palasaides”, and they built bullworks along the northern side to protect the encampment.
