Oct 29, 2012 - Paducah KY

Arrived in Paducah KY late Sunday afternoon so waited until Monday morning to visit the National Quilt Museum, I could not imagine making quilts like was on display, there was even a wooden Quilt! They had 320 quilts from all over the world, well worth the visit, even Dallas enjoyed looking at them. We drove down on the water front where the Ohio river runs, they had walls erected we guessed to help hold the water back, there were murels painted on each wall section giving the history of Paducah. Several Paddle boats were on the river, it...

Oct 28, 2012 - Trip to Paducah KY

Left Cave City on Sunday took route 68 out of Bowling Green, riding along and I ask Dallas what if that really tall thing sticking up in the middle of nowhere, the closer we got the bigger it was, looked like a monument then we saw the brown sign, State historical site so we drove up to it, it looked like the Washington Monument. Found it was a monument to Jefferson Davis and a Museum, the Monument was started in 1917 and completed in 1924, 351 feet tall. It is across from his home in Fairview KY, his Family moved to Mississippi when he was...

Oct 26, 2012 - Corvette Museum

Just down the road about 30 miles in Bowling Green KY is the Corvette Museum, saw some great cars, it was a history of the Corvette, had just about anything you would want to know about them, had one or more from every decade beginning with 1953. There was also a building just down the street that had all kinds of old cars, all makes and all in perfect condition.

Oct 25, 2012 - Visit to Cave

It was a beautiful 5 mile drive into Mammoth Cave Park, the road was lined with trees, all were in full color. We chose to take the Frozen Niagara tour, smallest tour with the least amount of steps, 49 steps down and 49 up, yes our legs were like rubber when we got back. very interesting tour, Mammoth Cave is the longest cave in the world, so far it has 392 miles mapped and no end in sight.

Oct 19, 2012 - Still Trekking South!

From Cave Country RV – Cave City, KY Today moved further south toward our destination of Gulf Shores, AL for a two month stay. The temps today never got out of the 50s with gray overcast skies and just enough spitting rain to have to use the wipers on intermittent most of the trip. We are really looking forward to getting to temps in the 70s during the day with sunshine. This is the real nice part of living the RV lifestyle in that you can go north when day time temps get to “hot” for your liking and the opposite by heading south when...

Home Sweet RV - 2012

Sep 12, 2012 - Oak Ridge, TN and Mammoth Cave, KY

Since we didn’t really know the story behind the formation of the town of Oak Ridge, we decided to pay the place a visit. We found a campground fairly close to Oak Ridge. It is the 138th place we have stayed since leaving on our adventures but still provided us with two new memories. The first was we met the man who holds the record for being the oldest military spouse. He is 70 [looks good for 70]; his wife is only 44 [obviously not a first marriage and she could be his daughter] and a Coronel in the Air Force. Second, this place had the...

Jun 19, 2012 - A visit with an old friend and . . . Corvettes!

Tues 6/19 We left Nashville this morning heading up I-65, after spending 3 weeks in Music City. We stopped at Summer Crest Winery just south of the KY/TN line. We have been here twice before and really liked a few of their wines. We picked a case to share with Ginger’s folks. The next stop was in Bowling Green and a tour of the Corvette factory. The tour was $7 and took about an hour and a quarter. It was informative and quite interesting. We had not seen an auto assembly line before. With all the different models, colors and options, it’s...

May 5, 2012 - Cave City Ky

This morning was a good morning. We did drive in a little bit of rain but the weather had said there were storms in Tn. We were praying we would miss them. We remembered why we don't drive on the week-end. Seems like there was traffic everywhere we were. We drove about 170 miles and arrived at Singing Hills RV Park about 12:30. When we pulled in the only drive going into the campground that is big enough for a rig was blocked with electric wires and a tree. The owner of the Campground said they had a big storm about 3:00 in the morning...

Don't wake me up

Apr 12, 2012 - Kentucky downunder

Interesting but terribly expensive if you ask me. The only ticket you can get is for 2 days and there is not enough there to spend two days at. First thing you see is a huge hill you have to walk up. They have a cavern tour. You can pet the animals, Kangaroo, emu, snake, turtles and many other animals. You can get in bird cage and have the birds land on you. Entertaining for about 4 hours. I guess you can see who he(Donald) built a fire for. His special girl (Cassidy) He never would built one for me. He did let Tammy and I sit by it. You...

Don't wake me up

Nov 21, 2011 - Cave City, KY - Nov 21

November 21, 2011 We were leaving Indy today and were starting to head south, hopefully to find some warmer weather! We got up around 7:30, packed up and said goodbye to Mina. The weather was still really gray and it wasn’t much better as we crossed over the state border into Kentucky, my 28th US state. Our first stop, which wasn’t much of a stop, was at Fort Knox. We were able to see the bullion depository building alongside the road but couldn’t get close to it or take pictures. We circled into the fort entrance and there was a security...

Oct 9, 2011 - The BIG Cave and A Wash Job

Yesterday--Saturday--we got a "washing permit" from the RV park for $10 so we could wash the RV and truck. Even with both of us working, it is still a job. In addition the Texas-OU game caused a delay after we got started. We got the job done and watched the game. We relaxed after the work of washing the RV and truck, watched more college football and grilled some bratwurst for dinner. Sunday we had reservations for the 11:15AM New Entrance Cave tour at Mammoth Cave National Park. We drove into the park and waited for our tour. It was...
