Oct 1, 2012 - In Bowling Green, visiting the Corvette Museum

Joe spoke to a lady who had just donated her 1954 Corvette. She owned it when she met her husband, they used it for their dates, they got married in it and he died in it of heat stroke. She just drove it into the showroom and bought a brand new Corvette, C5. Figuring she was around 70+ (?) She was sharp and very nice. Loved telling the story of her car. Joe also spoke to the new owner of the gun metal gray Vette. He bought it for himself as a retirement present, he and his wife were very nice and very excited! We loved the color. This was a...

Sep 8, 2012 - Roller Derby!

I heard an ad on TV about the last game this season for the Vette Vixens saying it's a familyentertainment idea, so I went to check it out. The skating arena is nothing to brag about, but at least Bowling Green does have a roller skating rink. I was given a program with pictures of the skaters and their "stage names". It also explained how the game works, but I didn't get it. I watched for awhile but never caught on and when I saw how lopsided the score was and that the home team was losing, I left. At least I can say I've been there and...

Aug 22, 2012 - Bowling Green finds

I've heard and learned that Kentucky was a swing state during the Civil War and I found a family's house that talked about its effects there. Atwood Hobson was for the Union while his wife's family was Confederate. the family was divided with members joining either side. Imagine - Your brothers fought for the south while your husband and sons fought for the north. This house was being built when the war broke out, so Hobson asked his good friend, a Confederate not to destroy the house if they came to town. The house wasn't destroyed, but...

Jul 30, 2012 - Mammoth Cave, Cave City, Ky

Mammoth Cave has 390 explored miles and 5 levels but no one has ever traveled all the miles. The cave is still being explored and maped all the time for new passages. Hiking trails are all around the area. We hiked several trails, here is one that is next to the cave where sink holes are formed.

Jul 27, 2012 - Lost River Cave in Bowling Green, Ky

We went to Bowling Green and toured the Lost River Cave which you travel by boat thru the cave in the dark, so many of my pictures of the cave was too dark to see. Hope you enjoy what I do have. After the cave there was a nature trail which had a butterfly house with a lot of flowers with butterflies all over them. It was beautiful.

Jun 6, 2012 - Wednesday 6th June

We had a leisurely start to the day and left Lebanon around 9.00am, after breakfast at the hotel. It didn’t take long to get to Indianapolis, and from the outskirts we got to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway quickly. We drove up to the Hall of Fame Museum, and decided to take the bus ride around the track – only the oval unfortunately, not the MotoGP track. It was interesting though, to go around it. The size of the stands is just amazing – but then I guess it does take half a million people. We had a quick browse through the shop and bought...

May 31, 2012 - Bowling Green, KY

Left Louisville in a bad storm headed for Bowling Green KY. I don't like their storms here it rains to hard and the thunder and lighting. We spend about 10mins on the drive where you couldn't even see in front of you. Nail bitting. When we arrive there was no rain and we had a relaxing evening. The next day we headed over to the Covette National Maseum where we spend hours going though and see the history of covettes. Then headed over to the factory where they build them. Taking a tour and walking along the assembly line was a great treat....

May 24, 2012 - Corvette Plant & Museum tour

Since my work day ended at 1 PM, I took the opportunity to tour the Corvette plant and see the museum, both in Bowling Green. The Corvette started being made in Flint, Michigan in 1953 (300 cars), then in Louisville, KY in 1954, and finally here in Bowling Green from 1981. Cameras and cell phones are prohibited in the factory, but I could take pictures of the Corvettes on display in front of the plant. I have not see any other car being made, only motorhomes, so I can't really compare. It was loud but impressive. They build the body on one...

May 15, 2012 - A bit of Bowling Green

I took today off to see the chiropractor in Glasgow and then to see a few places in Bowling Green. I went by Barren River Dam so I stopped at the beach across from the campground this time. There is a picnic area on the point or spit of land near the beach and the trees at the edge reminded me of trees I saw at Monterey, CA or Crater Lake, OR! I went past an aviation park with a few jets on display, so I stopped to see them. They are planes piloted by men from this area in either WWII, Korea, or Viet Nam. I watched teenagers play disc golf...

Mar 29, 2012 - Troy,AL to Bowling Green,OH

A fabulous morning greeted us at Deer Run in Troy. The temperature was 70 and dry. The sun dappled the green leaves while a mocking bird dashed at our front window. Squirrels were scrambling everywhere. A massive bee hovered near as I walked about. What a gorgeous retreat after a long drive. We reluctantly left Troy and drove to Bowling Green,KY. Again the scenery was spectacular-spring is in full splendor. White, pink, and red bushes dotted the green forests as water trickled down the rock walls as we rambled through the western end of the...

Dec 13, 2011 - First Night on the Road

We always make this stop at the KOA in Bowling Green. It is a above average park and the owners are nice. Sites are plenty big so we do not have to disconnect. Most of the time the weather here is warmer and we do not have to worry about freezing temperatures. It got cold here but stay above 32 degrees. To play it safe we did have electric heaters running in the coach living areas as well as the water bay areas. Before we left Canal Winchester we filled our fresh water tank with 100 gallons of our very own water. Thanks for riding along....

Oct 16, 2011 - Corvettes!

After a nice drive we arrived at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Way back when (prior to my becoming a "Mom") I owned a 1976 Corvette Stingray and have always had a special place in my heart for the Corvette. I have to say, after touring the museum, I still prefer the earlier years, and especially the models of the 70's. Interestingly enough, I couldn't find anyone working at the museum who was willing to let me take one of those babies for a test spin! After a good long look at those gorgeous cars we headed out to...
