May 31, 2020 - Looking for Dorothy

This morning we got out a little earlier and after grabbing a quick breakfast we got on the road and pulled out of the Red River RV Resort. It was a good stopover for the night. Normally it is pretty full with travelers and folks that didn't want to pay the high price to stay at the Winstar RV park. This time it only had the long time residents with only a half a dozen over-nighters. We got it for $20 since we are members to Passport America. Normally it is $40. We got on I35 North and headed towards Kansas. Today was another good day...

Sep 23, 2019 - I don't know about this!!!!

We made it to Henderson, Nebraska yesterday and stayed at Prairie Oasis rv park overnight. We had a good day driving yesterday and since it was our first time to be in Central Time Zone we turned in an hour earlier for bed. It will take a bit to get use to it getting dark so early. We got up this morning with temps in the 60's and a very heavy dew. We got back on the road around 8:30 and headed South. We stopped in York, Nebraska and got some breakfast and filled up with diesel. We crossed into Kansas and as we drove we noticed that the...

Apr 12, 2019 - Changed plans, then changed them again

So originally we were to move on Wednesday then the "Bomb Cyclone" hit the central plains so we changed plans to stay till Friday to let it pass thru and then head North to Kansas. On Thursday we checked the weather in Oklahoma and Kansas and they were predicting heavy rain for Saturday also that I-80 in Nebraska was closed due to the blizzard. We then extended our stay to Sunday thinking that the rain will pass and that I-80 would be cleared and open. Well this morning it was 41 degrees outside and I hadn't turned on the propane yet so the...

Oct 14, 2018 - What a day!

We got up this morning and it was starting to snow and 32 degrees. After yesterday, with it being in the 50's we figured the roads would stay clear even though it was snowing. We pulled in the slides last night so that if it did have any accumulation of snow in the morning it would not build up on the slides and cause a problem closing the slides. The wind was blowing pretty good out of the North and what was falling was a mixture of snow and sleet. As we were hooking up the trailer and disconnecting the power cord our neighbor came up and...

Mar 29, 2018 - Back in Kansas

This morning we passed on the free breakfast and hooked up the trailer and prepared to get back on the road heading North. We told Karen bye and that we will miss her. We will see her again in a couple of months when her and one of our Granddaughters flies to Montana to spend a week or so with us. After hugs we pulled out and got on the road. The truck and trailer did very well. The only grade we came to was in the Turner Falls area. Which wasn't much of a test. We can tell there is more weight behind us and that it is wider than the other...

Nov 15, 2017 - We made it across Kansas

We had a good day traveling. We got started around 9:00 and went to the Iron Skillet and had breakfast. Afterwards we filled up with fuel and headed south on Hwy 81. All across Kansas is cornfields. Most of the fields have already been harvested and plowed under ready for the next years crops. Of the 278 miles that we traveled today all of it was cornfields until we got south of Wichita and then there were fields where cotton had been planted and they had large bales ready to be hauled off. As we crossed Kansas we started to see more and...

Apr 5, 2015 - Our 2nd stop, Winfield Fairgrounds, KS

Happy Easter everyone!!! We got up this morning and it was raining with overcast skies. We checked the radar and it showed that it should be moving out in a few hours. We had the leftover Pig-n-blankets from the castoff breakfast on Sat. (Thanks Paige) We got on the road around 10:00 and headed to our next planned stop in Winfield, KS. It rained on us up until noon then it started to clear up. We had a good tail wind and an uneventful drive. We stopped numerous times to get out and stretch our legs and new knees. The knees haven't got into...

Apr 7, 2014 - On our way North at Winfield, Kansas

We left Lewisville Lake Park this morning headed north. It was a overcast day with a slight chance of showers. We finally got away around 10:30 am. It had been a while since we had moved that it took us a little longer than normal. If it hadn't been for us having to move within the park last Thursday since we ended out time as Camphost. It would have taken us longer. It is amazing how things accumulate when you are stationary for a while. We pulled into the Winfield Fairgrounds around 5:30pm. Overnight fees were $10. It is a large area with...
