Oct 20, 2012 - Wilson, Kansas

We did a bit of exploring today in the town of Wilson, Kansas. It is amazing how much there is to see and do in this area. I am going to have to do a lot of separate updates just to cover all the pictures I have taken. :-) We visited the Midland Hotel and took pictures before going to the famous "Made from Scratch" Restaurant. In the 1970's, the Midland Hotel was used as a movie site for many of the scenes filmed for the movie "Paper Moon" staring Ryan and Tatum O'Neal. Made from Scratch is just as the name implies. It’s a popular place...

Oct 19, 2012 - Finally in Kansas :-)

We are finally in Kansas after another long driving day, about 300 miles. I am happy to report the weather was much better, but we do have a slide cover to replace after all the wind whipped it into pieces. Yikes! We are hoping to find a replacement when we arrive in Branson, Mo. We will be exploring the area for a couple of days before moving on to Branson. It looks like there is a lot to do here. Wilson is only 7 miles from Lake Wilson, "The Clearest Lake in Kansas". It is also home of the Annual Czech Festival, and the Famous Midland...

Aug 3, 2011 - Lake Wilson

We left the fairgrounds early and we drove merrily down I-70 towards Wilson, Kansas. We like COE Campgrounds and they just so happen to have one here at Wilson Lake. We chose Sylvan Park, lots of trees right behind the dam. No water in sight unless we wanted to drive over to the other side. We toured the close by towns of Wilson and Lucas, Had a wonderful time looking at the architecture of the old buildings. We did the obligatory trip around the lake. Even with the heat, it is gorgeous. Mom is getting her strenght back and is walking on a...

Oct 21, 2010 - Minooka COE Park outside of Russell Kansas

Hello Everyone....Well we have left Canton Lake Oklahoma and we headed north toward Kansas. The landscape is still flat with lots of farmland and little small towns. We really enjoyed the ride here to Kansas. We stayed on smaller country roads instead of going on the interstates. We did find a Walmart in Alva Oklahoma before we crossed over into Kansas. We stopped and stretched our legs for just alittle while and long enough for me to make us a picnic lunch to eat further down the road. Well we found us a roadside park just on the other...

Aug 2, 2010 - Monday August 2- Wilson KS

We ran over to the McDonald's in Atchison for breakfast and to check the Internet using their WiFi. Had a nice conversation with former sister-in-law Angie Gray who we ran into at the MickeyD’s. We were driving through the campground to the dump station when the Ranger pulled us over. He wanted to know if we had seen anything the previous evening. Evidently they had some vandalism in the bathrooms during the night. As we were leaving the poice were arriving. Can’t believe some people! Anyway, we drove north on Rt. 59 to St. Joseph, then...
