Feb 7, 2012 - Depart from Wichita
We are so excited to be on our way! The excited travelers are Barry Borrow (the kind man who is escorting us) with Star of Hope International, Jolene Tustin, Jennifer Schartz and myself Jan Frenzl. We are each allowed to check 2 bags at 50 lbs each so they are filled to capacity! They have been filled with items from Prince Of Peace Parrish, Great Bend on their way to Our Lady Of Perpetual Help in DuBisson Haiti and additional items that Star Of Hope is delivering to mission sites.

Nov 5, 2011 - Wichita
Almost there!! Wow.... very boring ride from Denver to Wichita!!! Pretty flat after seeing such beautiful mountains in western Colorado. However, it changes dramatically east of Denver into Kansas. It was still nice to finally be in Kansas - long ride and we had to be in Coffeyville by Sunday for an orientation meeting with Amazon - almost there!

Nov 2, 2011 - Bathing rituals
Having partaken of bathing rituals throughout the world, it was important to experience the Arkansas hot spring in keeping with the local 1800s customs. This is possible at Buckstaff a behemoth of a building filled with porcelain, marble and tile. The bathing is done in keeping with strict tradition. At the entrance lobby sits a row of leather chairs. Men and women are immediately segregated. Men stay below, while women are escorted by serviced elevator to the second floor. The elevator agent often acted as messenger between floors....

Apr 6, 2011 - Blasi Campground, Wichita, KS
We took our time this morning but still managed to be on the road out of Oklahoma City at 10 minutes before 8:00. We arrived in Wichita a few minutes before 11:00 AM, after a very nice drive, with a good tailwind. I try to tell it like it is when we move to a different RV Park. We thought we knew what to expect here at Blasi Campground. We have been here before. In fact this is the place we were parked with our brand new RV when we moved out of our home, which was just about one mile away. The people running this place are quite nice but...

Jul 13, 2010 - Wichita, Kansas
7-13-2010 Update Blue skies always make starting out in the morning better! After a warm night of lightning and rain, we were blessed with a cool 76 degrees and clear skies when we left bright and early at 8:15 AM. Everything was going great until Jim noticed the steering wheel positioned about 30 degrees to the left. What happened to cause this change? Sandy asked if we had crossed the border into Kansas. That was it! Like magic after hitting the plains of Kansas the wind picked up and was slowly trying to push us off the road! We never...

Apr 12, 2010 - Wichita, Kansas (Oasis RV Park)
April 12/10 We got up early to make phone calls to find new tires to get us home. So, we had to go across town but this time we use Hwy 44 to avoid the bumpy I-40 (which makes Jazz and Buster look like bobble head pets) to T & W Goodyear Tire Company. We got 4 new tires for the trailer and only lost 2 hours off our day. So we headed north on Hwy 35 to Wichita, Kansas to the original plan route so now we are on track again. We are back in tree country and the wild dogwoods with gorgeous purple flowers. We stayed at Oasis RV Park not to be...

Sep 8, 2009 - Wichita, Kansas and back home
After a long day of driving on September 4th.....through Nebraska and most of Kansas....we arrived at our resting spot for Labor Day weekend at Eldorado State Park outside of Wichita, Kansas. We had a large camp site on the end with a view of the lake. Of course the park became very busy with holiday weekend visitors but we were content to sit around and read and relax. Our main purpose for making the stop was to see our friend Gwen Fennimore who has move to Eldorado to assist with her mother, Betty. Betty was in the hospital so we visited...

May 29, 2009 - Sedgewick County Park
On our last day in Wichita, Suanne and I visited Sedgewick County Park. This is a huge park on the outskirts of Wichita with something for everyone. It has four lakes, a youth baseball and soccer complex, hiking trails and a large number of picknic areas. As we hiked around the park, it was evident that many of the birds and other animals had acclimatized to humans. As we began our walk, we saw the young ducklings and goslings being herded to a small stream by their parents. It was interesting to watch as one parent led the birds into the...

May 26, 2009 - Walking in Wichita
Today we walked along the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita. The highlight of the day was watching the geese hold up traffic as they leisurely crossed the road to feed on the banks of the river. While we were watching, one driver honked his horn as if the geese really cared. While watching the geese feed, it was interesting to keep watch over the younger goslings. Their look alone told me not to come any closer. On Memorial Day we stopped to ask the RV park attendant when the pool was opening. Apparently two ducks did not get the message....

May 24, 2009 - Family Visit
We arrived this afternoon in Wichita Kansas and spent the evening with Suanne's sister and her family. It's amazing how fast children grow up, especially when you only see them once a year. We will spend the next few days with them, but still plan to take some time for our walking. Depending on the rain forecast we will drive up to Topeka on Wednesday to complete out Kansas capital walk.
