Jul 6, 2018 - Toto . . . I think we are in Kansas!!

We thought today was going to be a repeat of yesterday but in the end it actually turned out good! The wind was a nice steady but strong breeze which made a huge diffference, not like the gusty wind of yesterday. The most exciting thing today was rescuing a turtle from the middle of the road! Poor thing! And what is a turtle doing out here anyhow?? I will have to look that one up and find out what sort of turtle lives in the dry land of eastern Colorado!! But I feel good about saving his little life! I just hope he didn't turn around and...

Sep 22, 2011 - Back and Forth....

With the Stewart Reunion completed, we turned our thoughts to preparing for our summer trip to the Colorado mountains. Even when we lived in Colorado the past few years before retirement, we didn't have time to spend in the mountains. We planned to visit all of our old favorite spots and check out an area we hadn't spent much time in. However, we had a lot of other things to get accomplished first. Our good friends, Bill and Barb Davison, are from Connecticut and spend the summers in Tribune. We usually have lots of time to get together...

Sep 17, 2011 - Stewart Reunion

In anticipation of the Stewart Reunion, we moved to the Mountain View RV park in Tribune on June 8. Our immediate family were the hosts for this reunion, along with support from the other "locals". I had reserved a Bed and Breakfast for our family since we didn't have the farm any longer. Everyone was coming and we had lots of work to keep us busy. At the last minute, Suzy and Mike couldn't attend, and Brian isn't much for family reunion, so the "hosting" was left to Wes and I, and our daughter, Sunny. But, all was well. We had planned the...

Sep 13, 2011 - Catching up, keeping up and .... giving up:)

Time has flown by!! What an awesome experience we have had! We are just two months short of a year since we started full time RVing, and it seems like just yesterday. A lot has happened and I am anxious to share our adventures and photos. I've been through 3 definite blogger "stages". As the title says, first trying to "catch up", trying to remember everything we did and sort through all the photos, etc. I did get a few posts done. Second came trying to "keep up". That seemed overwhelming too, so I just "gave up". As you can see I haven't...

Aug 22, 2010 - SOLD!!!

We are having a bittersweet experience. We closed on our farm yesterday. We are officially full time RVrs now:) Wes had been dragging his feet for about a year, not sure if I would want to do this. On one occasion he wanted to know the root of all the stress I was having. I told him it was living in limbo. We wanted to full time and in order to do that, we needed to sell the farm. I've been cleaning, sorting, and disposing of things for about a year and he had done nothing with his stuff. I need things organized and planned and am...

Jul 19, 2010 - Welcome home Zack:)

Wow! That two years sure went by quickly. Just two years ago, our grandson Zack left on his mission. He served in the Spanish speaking Sacramento California mission. Last Thursday, his family met him at the airport. It was a wonderful reunion - tears by everyone:) We chose to meet him at his home instead of the airport. Boy, did he grow! I think he is as tall as his Dad now, 6 feet at least. The whole family was gathered to celebrate his homecoming. We picked Sunny up at the airport later that evening. It's interesting to see how he has...

Jul 13, 2010 - Strong winds, broken foot

All of the strong winds have done quite a bit of damage to trees etc around the farm, but I really was worried about the electrical pole. It was bending more each day. I called the electric company on the 6th and they were out there with a crew later that same day. The were able to pull the pole back straight and attach and anchor line. I was sure glad, otherwise we would have had to get a whole new pole. That would have involved turning off the electricity and rearranging all the wires etc. Great service guys - another positive aspect to...

Jul 7, 2010 - Hello, Goodbye

Gary and JoElla arrived for a visit on July 1st. They arrived just in time for wheat harvest and the 4th of July. They got all set up and hooked up and we drove out to the field to watch the harvest. JoElla caught a ride on the combine with Shea. We took lots of photos. Friday, July 2, we made a day trip to some of the interesting local attractions. First stop was about 60 miles away at the Kansas Pyramids. These are sandstone formations left by wind erosion. We have always enjoyed a visit to them as they change every year. There are...

Jun 30, 2010 - Bad weather, wheat harvest

Western Kansas is well known for its severe spring weather and tornadoes, but it sure seems like we have had an unusual amount of bad storms. The wind has been especially bad and damaging. While we were traveling in April, we had a hail storm that broke a couple of windows, so we had those replaced. But then, Ocie, who lives just 1/2 mile from us said her insurance adjuster said she needed a new roof and windows replaced and had other damage to her farm buildings. We decided maybe we should have the adjuster take a look at our house. Sure...

Jun 18, 2010 - A grandaughter visit...

Our grandaughter, Zoe visited us for about 2 weeks. We had a lot of fun and did a lot of things, but still had more on our list. Guess she'll have to come back again:) We had quite a bit of work to do around the farm when we got home and Zoe helped with the mowing. She likes driving the little tractor with the mower:) We planted flowers in all my pots and cleaned up the yard some. We met Aunt Ocie in town for lunch one day and had a nice visit with her. We introduced her to patty-melts. Can't believe she has never had one:) We cleaned out...

Jun 12, 2010 - Up to date.....

Our stay at home wasn't very long:) Tuesday, we traveled to Aurora, CO to pick up our grandaughter, Zoe. She is spending a few weeks with us. Our kids and grandkids have always loved spending time at the farm and we are happy that Zoe has decided she likes to be there too. She is growing up quickly and we are glad to have some "personal" time with her. As usual, when we return to our old "stomping grounds" in Aurora, we have lots to do. Top of the list is lunch with some close friends and a massage with Delephine. I believe I have attested...

Jun 12, 2010 - Gardening?

With all the extra rain this spring, the wildflowers are putting on quite a show. I have put off mowing the area to the east of the house because I enjoy looking out the window at all the flowers blooming. But we finally had to get it mowed:( I was able to get some photos before mowing. I have spread seeds of all kinds out there every year and they never come up, but this year there were a couple of new flowers I had never seen before. So, maybe they were just waiting on the right amount of rain. Wes says the birds ate all the seeds:( I...
