Apr 11, 2019 - Spinning our wheels at the Casino

One of the many great things about traveling like this... you learn how to spell city names. Well Wichita, (took Mike took a few tries to get this spelling right) you were hot when we pulled in yesterday 86F (30C) and in twelve hours it was just a few degrees above freezing. The wind roared all night and the TV news crawling banner kept on flashing blizzard warnings for points west and north of us. It should have been easy to sleep (we were tired), but our proximity to a very active train track and the engineer's deep need to honk their...

Winter In Phoenix

Apr 9, 2019 - Topeka, Kansas

As we continued our journey toward Washington State, we traveled northwest from Nashville on I-24 across the southwest corner of Kentucky, over the Ohio River into Illinois where we spent a night in Marion, Illinois, on I-57. I-57 led us to I-64 east of St. Louis and then onto I-70 across the Mississippi River into Missouri. After one night in Danville, we continued west to Independence, Missouri, for another one night layover before proceeding into Kansas (avoiding I-70 which had become a toll road in Kansas) to our next capital...

Apr 4, 2019 - Elk City to Topeka on Two Hours of Sleep

After nine days at Rolling Retreats and with everything repaired we were anxious to get on the road again. I guess it was time for Murphy’s Law to play with us because severe weather moved into the area with thunder, lightning, pouring rain, strong, gusty wind and red all over the TV screen when the weather people were explaining things. The result was that on the night before a seven or eight hour haul with the RV we had a total of two hours of sleep. I felt exhausted and worn out as we shared our morning coffee but we were soon finished...

Sep 5, 2018 - There Was A Pucker Factor

We woke during the night to the sound of rain pounding on the roof. We could see the flashing of lightning through the slats of the window blinds but there wasn’t much thunder which seemed unusual. The rain had stopped by the time we woke this morning. We shared a pot of coffee as we waited for daylight so we could see how much of a swamp we were in. I hoped we could pull out without too much of a problem. Light rain fell from the solid gray overcast as we prepared to leave but we worked together like a well oiled machine and pulled out of...

Aug 1, 2018 - Day 2 - Topeka to Chattanooga

We traveled 750 miles today across the rest of Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, into the corner of Georgia, and to Tennessee. What a long exciting day!!! In Missouri, we stopped in Wentzville, MO for gas and this guy in a Toyota truck pulls in at the pump ahead of ours within an inch of our bumper – seriously, I exaggerate not on this one. The funny thing isn’t that he pulled that close to us – the funny thing is that there were 12 other pumps open on 6 other islands available and he pulled up within an inch of the only car getting...

Highway 127 Sale

Jul 31, 2018 - Wowser Trip

We have had a very busy month. We drove over 700 miles to Ohio and then back to Kansas this week, another 700 miles. We left the RV in Kansas and did all the driving in our car. We visited Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas. We are glad to be back home in our RV. We enjoyed our time with family very much. We don’t get many chances to spend a whole month together with our grandson, Sam. He has grown into a delightful young man, we are so proud of him. We already miss everyone so much, especially our granddog Queso, he...

Jun 7, 2018 - On The Road to Topeka

We were awake at 5:30 this morning and soon sat together sipping our morning coffee. About the time we finished the coffee a glance at the clock was all the urging we needed to get started. Things went very smoothly for us and we pulled away from our Site before 8:00 which was our planned departure time. We stopped at the parking lot to connect the car to the RV and to chat with our friend Jeff who stopped mowing to say “So Long” and share a hug. It was 8:15 when we left the Mark Twain Cave Complex and were “On the Road again”. The drive...

Safari in Tanzania

Apr 26, 2018 - Topeka Bound

It sure would have been nice to sleep in this morning but today was a travel day, a LONG travel day. We took some time to share our morning coffee before getting busy and we pulled out of Rolling Retreats at 7:40 AM. I decided to bypass Oklahoma City and avoid the bumper to bumper traffic moving at 60 mph. I have a friend who calls that early morning rush hour traffic the “Demolition Derby”. We turned north on Hwy 81 at El Reno and then turned east on Hwy 51 at Hennessey, Oklahoma. That took us to I-35 well north of Oklahoma City. The...
