Apr 8, 2009 - Mid America ... literally

We arrived in Smith Center to drop our 5th Wheel Trailer off at the service department where it was manufactured 5 years ago. We've had some trouble with one of the slides with a few people trying to repair it, but with no lasting success. So we decided it was time to take it back to the factory and have it done right. Oct 26, 2008 - Smith Center, KS

We had to make a stop in Smith Center, KS to visit Peterson Industries (the company that manufactured our 5th wheel). We needed to have some repairs done. While there we met a very nice couple from Canada and another very nice couple from Wisconsin. We spent a total of 4 nights at the Service Center and had all our issues resolved. While there we visited the geographical center of the 48 states. Not much to see except for a sign. There is also a quaint windmill in the center of town. We'll be off to Dodge City next.

Later one of my cousins and his wife took us on a tour of the area where my parents and many of my other relatives have lived and farmed in the past. He also showed us the farm where they lived until a few years ago. We also stopped at the Luctor cemetery where we found the headstones of my grandparents and many of my aunts and uncles. I took photos of many of the headstones. My cousin grew up here and has lived here all his life...

We had a couple of maintenance items that needed attention and decided to go to the original manufacturer as long as we were within a hundred miles or so. A couple of hours of work the next morning and we were back on the road. On our way to Smith Center today, we stopped at Belleville KS and visited the Boyer Museum of Animated Carvings. A 90 something man has been carving characters and making motorized animations since he...
