Aug 12, 2011 - Russell, Kansas.....1575 miles to home....!!!
Day of pure traveling down the road...putting on miles....getting closer to home!!!! Flat farm land far as the eye can see after we got east of the Denver area. Coming through Vail and that area was pretty in the mountains. Lots of up and down twisty highway...with lots of traffic. Glad to get away from it.... Now in "Triple J RV Park" in Russell, Kansas. Hopefully, tomorrow we won't be in Kansas anymore....

Jul 31, 2011 - What? Again?
Each year Sharon and I try to select a theme song that best exemplifies that year’s experience. For example, 2007 was no problem because we spent the summer in Alaska and of course, chose, “North to Alaska” as its theme song. This year’s theme song was also pretty easy to choose and with all do respects to “Hee Haw” and its two stars, Buck Owens and Roy Clark, we selected and partially modified: “Gloom, despair, and agony on us Deep, dark depression, excessive misery If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all Gloom, despair, and...

Jun 20, 2011 - Russell, Kansas
Boy did we have a very unsettling drive today from Seibert, Colorado to Russell, Kansas. It started last night with a tornado warning at our campground in Colorado and then it started raining hard around 2:00am this morning. When we left today, the rain was coming down and the wind was blowing 30-40 mph. The next four hours was constant rain and wind. We listened to the radio all the way and were constantly being told of tornado warnings and flooding along our route. We finally made it to Russell, Kansas around 4:30. The wind is still...

Apr 7, 2011 - A Really Good Salesman
Today is a 265 mile drive up to Russell, Kansas. Mary got in a couple hours behind the wheel today driving through small towns and fairly narrow two lane highways. Even though I practice on the banjo when Mary drives to keep myself occupied, I still can't help but be a back seat driver. The country side here is mostly agriculture with quite a bit of cattle and some horses also a lot of oil quite possibly a fairly new oil field because almost all of the pumpers are operating and most of the equipment is still nicely painted. I think we've...

Jul 10, 2010 - Leaving Monument
This trip to Colorado found us coming and going differently then last year, so it has not been boring. The only thing that is baffeling is that eastern Colorado is brown and somewhat unattractive. We traveled on CO-24 northwest for approximately 80 miles until we came to I-70. Other then the small strecth Of I-70 in Green River, Utah I had never driven this interstate. Anyway, it is pretty lousy! As we entered into Kansas, the highway improved and the Rest Areas were abundant. We stopped and walked Benji and had some lunch. The terrain had...

Jul 7, 2010 - West across Kansas
Between the drips and dribbles, and sometimes heavy rains, we trudged on across Kansas. The ride was short and uneventful. We made our customary rest stops for Foxy; it was pouring rain at the first stop but I got her out anyway. She seems to need this reinforcement about 50 miles down the road that the world is still out there; then, she settles right in and goes to sleep. We fueled up at Flying J in Salina; the last of the sub-$3/gallon diesel for a while. We were in no hurry so we had lunch there too, or breakfast food, which is what we...

Jun 23, 2010 - Alaska Bound No Matter What!!!
No entry for yesterday. We left at approx. 10:15am and drove to Thackerville, OK, just inside the OK. state line out of Texas. One thing to say about yesterday is...it was so hot. 100 degrees when we pulled into the RV park. We were just happy to be on our way. TODAY..WHAT A DAY, Let me repeat that. WHAT A DAY......We left the park at 6:50am, drove approx. 70 miles. We are both hearing a noise. We stopped, Tommy checks out everything and all is well. We drive on and get into some construction on the Interstate. Lane proceeds into ONE lane...

Nov 1, 2008 - OTRA - KS - Russell
Left today around noon for the drive south on Route 183 to I70 east to Route 281 north for one block to our next stop in Russell, Kansas. We noticed there were gates at the entrance to I70 in Hays, Kansas that I think they may close when there are severe winds (mostly in the spring) along that highway. It was so different driving the busy, sign-infested interstate compared to the open scenery, very little traffic of the red roads. Welcome to Kansas (this time, officially) at 12:30. 17.3 miles. We started seeing more and more low volume...

Sep 26, 2008 - Russell, Kansas
This morning, we headed east to Grand Island, Nebraska. We needed to meet once again with Carmen from Lincare. She checked John's progress with his sleep apnea machine by running a report off the card that is contained in the machine. It showed that everything is working fine and that John's sleep pattern is much improved. He is feeling better every day. Any time John begins having problems with either his sleep or the machine, all we have to do is contact Lincare and they can resolve the problems or make appropriate recommendations. We...

May 29, 2008 - Russell, Kansas
We drove all day today, watching the weather channel at lunchtime (via our satellite dish). All along I-70, from Kansas City to Salina, skies were very cloudy, and it was breezy. We figured that area would be stormiest this afternoon, because of all the available moisture. After lunch, the winds really kicked up, and they haven't let up all afternoon - they're sustained at about 35mph, with gusts to about 45mph. West of Salina, the skies became cloudless, so we thought we were safe. NOT!! As soon as we pulled into this Russell campground, a...
