May 8, 2013 - Back In Our Home On Wheels!

From Evergreen Motel & RV Park – Pratt, KS New seals on and larger refrigerator installed! Having to be out of our “home” two full days and three nights……two at Super 8 Motel and last night at the small city park just down the road from the NuWa service. However we had to be checked out of the motel by 11 a.m. and could not pick up our trailer until 3:30 p.m.………so lots of time to re-explore Chanute. We spent time looking at some of the new trailer inventory at what is now Kansas RV (NuWa running this RV dealership under this name). They...

Home Sweet RV - 2013

Oct 9, 2012 - PRATT, KANSAS

DAY 16, BUCKET LIST TRIP Drove from Oakley, Kansas to Pratt, Kansas about a 5 hour drive. We saw a sign on the road telling about an old historic church called the Cathedral of the Plains. It was in a small town named Victoria in Kansas. We decided to stop and take a look since it was near the exit. It was founded by English immigrants who later decided to leave because of the harsh winters. German immigrants came to town and took it over. German craftsmen built the first of three churches on this spot. The current church was finished in...

May 15, 2011 - Windy Welcome

Egad! Sure is windy in these parts. A quiet day of only 25mph they don't even bother to talk about on the local TV stations. By the end of the day we were ready to get off the road. The winds had switched to almost a cross wind, so the gusts left us rocking and the trucks left us rolling. Kansas is much greener and pastoral than we were expecting. The scenery has been very pleasant on the eyes. We had breakfast at Rick's. It is an eatery attached to the motel/rv park where we stayed. Prices average about 2 dollars less for a normal...

Oct 3, 2010 - Pratt, KS

We had a good day on Saturday here in Pratt, KS. First of all we slept in. We had driven two long days and that, after the emotion of the funeral, was enough that we slept the clock around. After a slow start with some computer surfing and a nice hot shower, we headed out for brunch. We found a good “down home” spot with cowboys to watch and had a good breakfast. Then we headed for Wallyworld. We did a big no-no and went without a list. But I think we got most of what we need including a birthday card for my brother. (It is on its way, bro...

Summer 2010 Travels

Oct 1, 2010 - Kansas

We had a great trip across KS today. Stopped at the Visitor's Center and got some info about the areas we are going. Just after the Visitor's Center there was a big blog of smoke in the air. As we got closer we could see that they were burning the fields. The farmer had plowed around the field and then set it on fire on the wind side. I think they do that to kill the weed seeds. Lots of milo in the fields like last year. As we turned west at Salina, I was able to see a small cactus on the side of the road. Also the horizons opened up. They...

Summer 2010 Travels

Nov 8, 2008 - OTRA - KS - Pratt

Short note for now...Left Russell at 11:45. A lovely day for the short drive from Russell to Pratt Kansas. . South on Route 281...Red Road all the way. Drove through oil country into crop country, into cattle country and back into crop country. Lovely weather. These “red roads” are very easy driving with little traffic until you get to a town that has a brick Main Street….and for some reason, they all do. Though they are pretty and quaint, these brick Main Streets are very bumpy to drive on. In Hoosington, they have the neatest decorations...
