Aug 26, 2010 - Still in Kansas

Today we traversed the length of Kansas, getting an early start only to stop and consume an enormous Midwestern breakfast! We saw vast fields of corn, soybeans, and beautiful golden sunflowers all facing southward. The highlight of the day in Cawker City, KS was seeing the World's Largest Ball of Twine. We settled in Oberlin for the night in a bank-converted Inn full of old world charm.

Apr 14, 2009 - Shamrock, TX to Oberlin, KS

We put in another long day driving today and left Texas behind; crossed the finger of Oklahoma at the top of Texas and travelled almost all the way across Kansas. Oberlin, the small town where we stopped for the night is only 12 miles from the border of Nebraska. It was very rural the entire way with crops, pastures, oil fields and cattle feedlots. The terrain changes very quickly from sand dunes to coulees to nice cropland. There were no large cities the entire way. We did drive through the small Texas town called 'Canadian'. It was worthy...
