Jul 5, 2014 - Music Night Rutlader Outpost

I have been waiting for tonight since we arrived here last Thursday. I have heard the Middle Creek Band about 8 years ago and anticipated a great show tonight. The Middle Creek Band is well known and has had visiting artists from all over the country. I included those in the pictures for this entry. The Theatre has a dinner and show type of format. Tonight for 10 dollars you got a Pork Chop, Mashed Potatoes, Home Grown Green Beans, Bread, Drinks and a little desert. Dinner lasts from 5 to 7 pm. The show starts at 7:30PM. The show costs...

Jul 4, 2014 - 4th of July Celebration in Louisburg Kansas

I cannot recall the last small town 4th of July celebration that I attended. Luckily here in Louisburg they had a great celebration. Just outside of town is the Lewis Young Park. I do not know the exact size of this park, but my first thought it was bigger than the whole town. There are area's for Tractor Pulls, Baseball Diamonds with Lights, Soccer Field, Shelter House and Restrooms, Paved Roads and lots of greenery and trees. Today was the towns annual celebration. They do not have a parade, except labor Day, but they put on a big...

Jul 3, 2014 - Westward Ho Louisburg Kansas

Several people in Louisburg and Rutlader, asked us why we picked this area to stop. I told them I normally drive 250 or so miles from place to place. I purposely choose areas that are not in the big cities. Sometimes that is not possible but this trip we had no problem finding the out of the way camps. The Rutlader Outpost has the Middle Creek Theatre and has a big country show every Saturday Night. More on that in the next entry. The town of Louisburg has just about everything you would want. McDonalds, just 1, Burger King, Just 1 and a...

Sep 11, 2012 - September 10-11, 2012 – Emporia to Paola and Louisburg, Kansas

September 10-11, 2012 – Emporia to Paola and Louisburg, Kansas This morning I was at the dentist’s office at 8. I got my teeth cleaned. They took x-rays of my teeth and discovered that a filling which has been there since about 1955 needed to be replaced. I guess after almost 60 years I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of that filling. I have another one which was put in at the same time, and it seems to be okay. I have an appointment on October 16th to get it replaced. I scooted back to the coach, hooked up the car and headed to Paola. There...

Sep 2, 2012 - "The Buck Stops Here"

When we arrived at Rutlader Outpost and RV Park on Sunday evening the office was closed, we couldn’t get the code to log onto the wireless network and there wasn’t any AT&T service in the area (the people that live in the area are among the 3% who are not served), so no internet access. I’ll be posting yesterday trip first and I can stay awake, I’ll try to get to today’s travels. We only drove about 70 miles yesterday from just east of KC in Missouri to 50 miles south near Louisburg, Kansas. By staying at Rutlader’s we added another state...

May 11, 2010 - COWBOY CHURCH

On our way to Kansas city to get Propylene Glycol for our heating system we came across a little western town named RUTLADER, and decided to stop. The pictures show it all, you would think at any time a cowboy on horse back would be riding into town. They have a good size play house that sits about 200 and fills up on Sat. nights. They also have a Cowboy Church on Tues. nights, so since today was Tues. we made sure we came back at 7 to check it out. To our surprise the place was packed and when we walked in the Pastor from the church we...

May 8, 2010 - Going to see the TIGERS

Went to Louisburg to a Cider Mill, we bought Apple Cider and Cider DONUTS!!!!! YUM- they were great!!!! Next we went to a FELINE SANCTUARY, which was very interesting. They have 7 tigers (one is a White Siberian Tiger),2 baby lions, bobcats, mountain lions, leopards, lynx, and wolves. The White Tiger proved to be afraid as you'll see in the pictures (he didn't like the man we were with). Later that night we returned to Louisburg to go to an Observatory (Kansas is noted for it's big open skys and beautiful show of stars)I think I'm being...

May 6, 2010 - Linn Valley, Kansas

We arrived at Linn Lakes Valley Resort, Kansas. The campground is very nice, but we are the only ones here, it feels strange (what will Jim do? He has no one to talk to!) We found out that this is off season, we are chasing spring across the country, everything here is in bloom. The resort has a beautiful golf course (to bad we don't play golf) and a small restaurant (we ate there a few times. It is also a large community on a lake so we did get to talk to some of the residences. On Mother's Day we went to the church here which we really...
