Today we head for Larned, KS. We camped quite close to a Walmart and Dollar Store. We can always find a few things we might need! We didn’t leave until almost 10:00 when it already was in the mid 80’s. The weather projections for Wed and Thursday in Larned, Abilene and Manhattan KS is thunderstorms with highs in the 40s-50s. Yikes! Decided to grill something tonight as we will be cooking inside for sure on Wednesday. Our route out of CO and through most of the day is 2 lane Hwy 50, the old Santa Fe route. The terrain changed once we hit KS....

Jul 31, 2012 - Fort Larned
Oh, what a night! More thunder !!!! No sleep!! We are off to tour Fort Larned in Larned, Kansas. Again today it is so hot, it is hard to breathe. We arrived at the fort early and enjoyed chating with the rangers at the Visitors Center. They had a very informative 10 minute movie telling about the fort and how it came to be. We enjoyed our journey into the past. We toured the fort and of course I had my passport book stamped. We found a place to park at the Roadhome RV Park, all for 20.00.
