Sep 19, 2012 - Waiting on New Parts
We are still here at "Camp Horizons" waiting for some new parts to come in. The techs, however, did install our new water pump today and what a difference that made on our water pressure! That new pump works great! Our friends Bruce and Mary Sue left this morning all fixed up and ready to go with their repair completed. We ate dinner together last night and then danced until bedtime. It was a fun evening. We look forward to seeing them again in the Rio Grande Valley later this year. We have some adorable donkey neighbors just up the road...

Sep 16, 2012 - Fun Despite the Wait
Today, Sunday, we went to visit the Buffalo Soldier Memorial Park here in Junction City, KS, with Bruce and Mary Sue. This is a very nice memorial honoring the African-American 9th and 10th Cavalry regiments whose role in our country's history is not always recognized or gratefully appreciated as they should be. After time at the memorial park we went to lunch at a Chinese restaurant and enjoyed some very tasty Chinese cuisine. It had been a long time since I indulged in any sweet and sour chicken, yum, what a decadent treat. Tonight we...

Sep 15, 2012 - New Horizons RV
We arrived here (the New Horizons Factory in Junction City, KS) at noon on Wednesday, September 11th. When we got here we found the New Horizons factory “hopping” and realized there was no way they were going to get to us that day. A few couples picking up their new rigs and a few other couples getting modifications/repairs were ahead of us on the work list. However, the New Horizons people were very friendly and helped to settle us into our “spot” we called “home” for the next couple of days (complete with a 50-amp hook-up and water). One...

Sep 8, 2012 - Milford Lake, KS
September 3 We drove from Longmont, CO to Russell, KS and the temperature reached 99 degrees (F). The farms in east Colorado and northwest Kansas show how the drought has affected this area. We saw dried up cornfields and sunflowers everywhere. September 4-5 We arrived at Farnum Creek Campground at Milford Lake, near Junction City, KS. Our site is pretty and on the shore of the lake, but it’s in the full sun and really warm. Thank goodness for air conditioning. It was very warm the first day and a big storm came through at night. The next...

Aug 23, 2012 - August 23 - New Horizons Factory
August 23, 2012 We are still in Junction City, Kansas at the factory. We all call this "Camp New Horizons". We have met some wonderful folks here all getting service done on their RV. We, found what we thought was a problem, but it turned out to be, an easy fix. Then it rained, well have a place we want the factory to look at and see if it will be a problem in the future. This RV is under warranty for two years, so we have plenty of time. Since it is our home, we want to take care of it the best we can. It has rained here in Junction City...

Aug 2, 2012 - Kansas
From Limon, Colorado, we continued down the road and consulted our “EXIT NOW” Good Sam book and saw that there was a “Bernie’s RV Sales and Service” in the small town of Stratton about 20 miles down the road on I-70. We tracked it down. Bernie worked in a dilapidated building and his car and makeshift office were decorated with Ron Paul for President signs and Confederate flags. Still, Bernie did well. He discovered that our AC unit had never been properly tightened down. Four bolts hold it to the roof – two were almost completely off and...

Aug 30, 2011 - Dog Days of August
2011-08-30 Dog Days of August It only went down to 74 last night and we got a pretty good thunder shower this morning. It was a quarter to 10 before we rolled out this morning. I took George out for his morning ritual and he was in a hurry to get back in Eagle where it was cool and he could lay in front of the fan. We decided to go into town to do our laundry. The closest town is Junction City and that's where we found a good laundry and ate lunch at Arby's. I asked for the Market BLT and was told they don't make that anymore. Would someone...

Aug 29, 2011 - Heat, Humidity; It Must Be Kansas
2011-08-29 Heat, Humidity; It Must Be Kansas It wasn't too bad when we left Mid America Camp Inn this morning, but by the time we rolled into Curtis Creek C.G. (COE on Milford Lake) near Fort Riley, KS. it was over 90 and not comfortable. We havn't felt heat & humidity like this since last September. Now I know I shouldn't complain, because I know what all our family and friends at home (ST. Louis area) have put up with this whole summer. There is just nothing like a midwestern summer; people living at higher altitudes or higher latitudes...

Aug 23, 2011 - Junction City,KS
Aug 23-Tues. Got up & the refrigerator was not working again. The man at the campsite told us about The Four Seasons RV repair Shop & where it was. When we got there he was too busy, so we went up the road to another “New Horizon” & they too were busy, but told us a few things to check & do. Well David tried that & checked all the batteries & fuses & everything seemed OK. He said there has to be something in-between the battery, fuses & wiring that is just not connecting. Everything works now when we are connected at the campgrounds, but...

Aug 7, 2011 - Lake Milford COE Park
We couldn't have picked a worse travel day...........111 degrees. After getting set up, we spent most of the day relaxing with the AC on. Thanks to having 50 AMP electricity, we had both AC's on. The lake is high and it wasn't until we checked in at the office that we were told that it is due to the Missouri River. Also, there was no swimming or fishing due to a Blue Green Algae. Well, that explains the lack of campers! We were educated on the algae, which is really a bacteria. The elevated temperatures are the cause of the bacteria and...

Jul 20, 2011 - A visit with Andrew
Today we drove into Missouri. My nephew Andrew Zorn is residing there at the University of Missouri doing medical research for them in the area of Alzheimer's disease. Hopefully someday he will find a cure to this horrible disease. He has several degrees but one he is pursing is in the field of Biophysics Engineering. He loves the field of medical research. We met him at a pizza place there within walking distance of the campus. We all enjoyed some pizza and soda and then we took him back to where he works (as it was about 102 degrees and...
