Apr 13, 2019 - April 13, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas

April 13, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas This seems to be electrical problems week. First, the turn signal/stop lights on the car. Then, it was the refrigerator. Now, the heating is going crazy. The front heat pump mostly seems to be working except that sometimes the furnace comes on instead of the heat pump. Last night when I went to bed the front furnace was working, but now it is not. I run the fan on the back AC during the night to keep down the road noise. It went off and wouldn’t come back on. However, the AC is working and so is the fan when...

Apr 12, 2019 - April 12, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas

April 12, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas My refrigerator stopped working last night so I was up, out and waiting for Carl when he opened this morning. Carl was out today dealing with some family medical problems, but Troy said that he would come out and look at it. I came back to the coach until it was time to leave to go to Council Grove to meet Bev and Sharon for lunch. Troy got here just as I was leaving. I had a good time visiting with Bev and Sharon. We got caught up on each other’s doings. We were at the restaurant when they opened, and we...

Apr 11, 2019 - April 11, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas

April 11, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas I took the coach to Williams this morning so that they could put on the new windshield wipers. They didn’t have them in stock on Tuesday and so had to order them. They came in yesterday afternoon, and they got them put on this morning. After that I stopped by Carl’s to pay my bill and have them connect my water hose to the coach. I really don’t know what I was doing wrong because Troy did it as easy as pie. I came back to the park and decided that maybe I had better test the new electric cord which connects...

Apr 10, 2019 - April 10, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas

April 10, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas I ran down to Wichita this morning. I made a quick pass through Von Maur, but I didn’t see anything which yelled at me to buy it. From Von Maur I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods and bought some exercise bands which I need to use with one of my exercise videos. I stopped at Dillon’s and picked up some things and filled the car with gas since I had bought enough to get $.10 a gallon off. My last stop was at Krispy Kreme to buy donuts for the guys working on the coach. When I got back to Emporia, they were almost...

Apr 9, 2019 - April 9, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas

April 9, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas I had the coach at Williams at 7:20 this morning. After we went over what they were to do, they ran me back here to the park to pick up the car. I went to Jones Park to spend some time reading while I waited for them to do the work. After 9, I went to the dentist’s office and set up my appointment and then to the eye doctor. It has worked out well for the appointments. They are all on the same day in October so that I can be done with them until next year. Williams finished with the coach about 10. Carl...

Apr 8, 2019 - April 8, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas

April 8, 2019 – Emporia, Kansas I talked to Carl today about the work that needs to be done on the coach. I also checked in with Williams to be sure that we were set for tomorrow morning to get the oil changed and general check-up done. When Williams gets through with the coach, they will call Carl so he can get it and begin to get the work done. I got my medical doctor’s appointment set for October. Tomorrow I’ll make the eye doctor and dentist appointments so I’ll be set when I come back. I got my hair cut, and I feel so much better. It...

Apr 7, 2019 - April 7, 2019 – Wichita to Emporia, Kansas

April 7, 2019 – Wichita to Emporia, Kansas It’s a good thing I wasn’t planning on making an early start this morning. There was a dense fog until around 9 when it began to dissipate some. I started a new book last night which some of you might find interesting. It called Rise of the rocket girls. It is about the “computers” who worked at the Jet Propulsion Lab from the 1940s to the 1970s. In some ways it is a companion to Hidden figures. It covers a lot more women and is not quite as in-depth on the women, but it covers some of the science...

Oct 10, 2018 - October 10, 2018 – Garden City to Emporia, Kansas

October 10, 2018 – Garden City to Emporia, Kansas Before I left Garden City, I stopped by to see the World’s Largest Outdoor Municipal Concrete Swimming Pool. This is located in a city park. Also located there is a Lacebark or Chinese Elm. This not to be confused with the Siberian Elm which is a relatively short-lived weak-wooded tree. The Lacebark Elm is a native of Eastern Asia. It has small, barely visible blooms in the fall which are wind pollinated. They can grow to 60’ tall and have 50’ to 60’ wide with a slender trunk and crown. The...

Aug 2, 2018 - Emporia, Kansas

Our drive was short today and we’re going toward the center of Kansas. The bad news of the day is that the campground where we are staying is the ONLY campground in the area and it was the worst one, location wise that we’ve every stayed at. Not only did it sound like we were parked on the median of the freeway behind us but we also thought we were on the train tracks. That’s the bad part about being in the very center of the country. Things were fine inside the RV while we were watching TV but trying to sleep was close to impossible....

Jun 26, 2018 - June 26, 2018 – Emporia and Olathe, Kansas

June 26, 2018 – Emporia and Olathe, Kansas I had the car at Williams at 9 this morning. I was going to wait for it, but they discovered that I needed brake pads. That was going to take a couple of hours. Brad loaned me a car, and I took advantage of the time to make my doctors’ (GP, dentist, eye) appointments for October. I got an appointment for a haircut as well. I also had the chance to visit with Barb at ESU and with Becky at her store, Twin Rivers Winery. By the time I finished with all that, my car was ready. I paid my bill for the...

Jun 25, 2018 - June 25, 2018 – Stillwater, Oklahoma to Emporia, Kansas

June 25, 2018 – Stillwater, Oklahoma to Emporia, Kansas I managed to get on the road by 7:15 this morning. It was an easy run up to Emporia. My 1st stop was at Williams to tell them that my horn was working. Since it was, there was nothing they could do because this kind of thing is not recorded on the computer. I made an appointment for tomorrow to get the tires aligned. I hope that will stop the knots from coming on the sidewall of the driver’s side front tire. When I went to pick up Joliffe, the AC had been installed but the window...

Oct 12, 2017 - October 12, 2017 – Emporia, Kansas

October 12, 2017 – Emporia, Kansas I started off this morning at the Ford garage. They got my phone synced again. They thought that a new update to the software had caused the problem. At any rate, it is working again. As for the door opener, the switch is burned out, and they have to replace the door handle. It would cost $500 to fix it. I said forget that. I can use the remote to open the door. Opening the door by touching it is nice, but not $500 worth. Today has been a day of visiting with folks. I stopped to see Becky and catch up with...
