May 14, 2013 - Home of Hitchiker

Still getting over the Leafs OT loss. Before we left Springfield we stopped at a Starbucks and bought 3 pounds of coffee. $6 per pound cheaper here. Go figure. We are passing through the SE corner on Kansas and Chanute, KS is very close so we decided to visit. Why Chanute? This is where our fifth wheel was manufactured. Have a couple of things I wanted them to look at and we were hoping for a plant tour. Unfortunately the company stopped production in December. It was getting too expensive to maintain quality and customers were not willing...

May 6, 2013 - Service On Our Home

From Super 8 Motel – Chanute, KS Arrived here in Chanute, KS on Sunday afternoon and parked the trailer in the little city park which most HitchHiker owners use when visiting the NuWa service. Once we got the trailer off the truck and jacks down we began taking items from the trailer which would interfere with the work we had scheduled to be done early Monday morning. It took several trips across the highway to the Super 8 before everything was moved…….things like the hanging framed pictures, knick knacks & kitchen items which we store in...

Home Sweet RV - 2013

Apr 18, 2013 - Chanute, KS

We went to Chanute, KS so the HitchHiker factory could put in a 22.6 cu ft residential refrigerator. It took them two day, and we spent one night in a motel. The refrigerator is huge. It has ice and water through the door, and you can get cubed ice or crushed ice. We are now on our way to Montana.

Dec 11, 2012 - Our new home

We picked up our truck first and then drove to every little tiny town around Chanute, putting on 500 miles as we needed to do that before we hooked up to our 5th wheel! We are acquainted with every little eatery within 50 miles of Chanute! Then on the 13th we picked up our new home. We stayed in Chanute for several days to test out all the systems. Everything was just perfect! We hope you enjoy the pictures. (It also has a washer and dryer, but I didn't get a picture of that!)

Sep 28, 2012 - Chanute, Kansas

While the map shows we went from Las Vegas to Chanute, we first flew back to Rapid City and then drove to Chanute. In Chanute we had traveled with about 3 other couples and we all were going to Chanute to get work done on our trailers. At Chanute it was one big rally and we had lots of fun. I only took one picture while we were there as we were having too much fun.

Aug 27, 2012 - Chanute, Kansas

After arriving on the 27th in Chanute, Kansas, the next day we took a big step toward finalizing our retirement plans. We went to the Nu Wa (long u and long a) plant and ordered our 5th wheel. Mike had done so much research that we knew more about some of the 5th wheel options than the dealer did! I got to pick out fabrics and colors, but most of the options we had already planned so the process went quite quickly! Next, we went next door to the Ford dealership where we ordered our truck to pull the 5th wheel. Mike did have a bit more to...

May 7, 2012 - Chanute, Kansas

From Eureka Springs we had a layover in Grove, OK for a few days. This is one of the membership parks that has full services and we don't have to pay to stay. We spent most of the time cleaning and doing chores, as well as shopping. We found another one of those stores that sells expired food items. We love it as the stuff is pennies on the dollar. After 3 nights in Grove we drove onto Chanute and arrived on Sunday and our appointment is on Tuesday. Monday we visited the factory to check out work that was going to be done on Tuesday and...

Mar 13, 2012 - Day 5 in Chanute

Well, we started off the day by taking the Nuwa tour of the production facilities and see first hand each step of the process for constructing a camper. It was interesting to see how it happens and all that goes into making a unit. We then went down to coffyville to a museum to see the Dalton gang museum. Pretty intresting wth lot's of old photo's and artifacts of the Dalton gang and how they were shot trying to rob the local banks by the citizens. We then went down to Oklohoma to visit a western store called Drysdale in which we order...

Mar 12, 2012 - Day 4 PDI for New RV at NuWa

We picked up the new RV today. Everything looks great so far. We were busy today moving everything back and forth. Well really Andi did most of the work as I had conference calls all afternoon that kept me busy. So far so good, but we plan on trying and testing everything over the next few days to make sure everything is in good shape. I was amazed at the stopping power of disc brakes. Tomorrow we will go for the tour to see how these things are built and then maybe ride down to cookeville and down to Drysdales, it just depends on what we...

Mar 11, 2012 - Day 3 Arrived at NuWa

We had a short trip, well relatively short from Missouri to Chanute Kansas. It rained most of the trip but luckily not heavy enough to hinder travel. We saw lots of farm land and cattle, and with me I never get tired of looking at cows. Passed some top notch angus ranches with some good looking stock. Thought about sissy as we seen many horses. Passed by some amish people riding in the rain on horse and buggy. Well, we parked here in the Santa Fe and tomorrow is the big day. We get to go see our new camper which has been months in the...

Dec 13, 2011 - Our Rig

I thought it might be a good idea to share with you some pictures of our home. These were taken by the nice people at the NuWa factory when the trailer was for sale. I think you will agree that this little baby does not look like it is a used, 2003 model. Obviously, it was either used very little, or it was well taken care of. Either way, it is perfect for what we need it for, and we feel very lucky to have found it. We are still trying come up with a name for it. Right now, we just refer to it as, "The Trailer", or "Home." Even though we...

Dec 12, 2011 - NuWa Factory

This is the exciting part. It's also the scary part. We arrived at the Nuwa factory at 8:30 am sharp. James was there to meet us and bring us into the service area to check over our unit. Everything looked great. Remember, we have already spent a week in the unit back in September when we drove out and made the purchase. They stored it inside for us until we could come back with our tow vehicle and pick it up. Rick and Jerry were adding some water and making sure everything was working. The only thing we asked was if they could take away...
