Oct 4, 2016 - Storms acoming, we agoing

Overnight we had a few strong thunderstorms. The wind blowed all night. The thunder and lightening woke us up several times. After daylight we started checking whether or not it would be better to stay here in York or move South to Arkansas City. The line of storms was moving east and all along our route there was a chance of rain. Although our whole route had a chance of rain, York was predicting severe thunderstorms with hail and the heavier storms. We decided to head farther South and hopefully miss the bad storms. Driving in the rain...

Jul 29, 2009 - Arkansas City

As we arrived in Arkansas City I was under the impression that they had 2 parks that you could overnight in, but only one had RV dumps. We quickly learned that Newman Park had the dumps but no overnight facilities. They had directions to the other park posted, so off we go. We found Walnut Park which is right on the river but not nearly as nice as Newman Park. This could be a nice park but several of the trailers here look like they had moved in for the long haul. Jun 6, 2009 - Slight Delay

Last night about 10:30 Glen remembered (thankfully) that our mail hadn't been delivered at Trisha's. It was mailed from South Dakota Wednesday and usually only takes two days, but NOT this time. Trisha said the mail usually was delivered fairly early. At 10:30 the mail was delivered and ours was there. After the last minute departure preparations we were on the road at 10:55. About 11:20 one of the boys asked when were we going to have lunch!!!! We were heading west on I-40 and stopped at the rest area near Sallisaw, Oklahoma, for lunch in...

Jun 23, 2006 - Knowles Family Reunion - Arkansas City, KS

For the record, "Lou Ann's Campground" in Arkansas City is really just some ladies' front yard with 15 or so hookups. The Knowles Family reunion went really well at the Quaker Haven Camp. They have a huge swimming pool, a big covered patio area, air conditioned kitchen/dining-hall, and lots of stuff for the kids to do. Even Grandma Mae went down the bumpy slide. We're gonna try and work in next year's vacation loop to include it again. Maybe next year, we'll try the Cherokee Strip RV lot on the main highway.
