Jul 27, 2012 - It All Began With A Steel Plow

From Amana Colonies RV Park – Amana, IA We have found ourselves once again in the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area. Our prior visit to the area and some of its sites and attractions was last year during our Great River Road journey. This area is a special 37 county corner in northeast Iowa “Where the Story of American Agriculture Comes to Life”. About 70 miles from the park is the city of Waterloo and home to John Deere Waterloo Operations. There are six John Deere Operation sites in Waterloo from Product Engineering, Engine...

We filled up in Des Moines and had lunch.Once we got on Highway 20 east of I35, we were on a "new" road for us. Hwy 20 is a good four lane hwy and the traffic was considerably better than on I80. As we were driving near Waterloo, we saw a sign for a Casino(my GPS didn't show it) we passed the turn off and stopped at the next exit and were given directions to the Isle of...

Nowadays, to work in a factory one must have good time management skills, computer and critical thinking skills as he/she is in...

Sep 5, 2007 - Skeeters, Skeeters, Skeeters

From George Wyth State Park, near Waterloo, in Central / NE Iowa. We arrived here yesterday at 1:47 PM; the mosquitoes were spreading the news that there was new meat available for feasting by 1:48 PM; we were being feasted upon by 1:49 PM. Yep, the big story of this campground is skeeters, skeeters, skeeters, & more skeeters!!!!!!! Yesterday afternoon, after returning from the ride-around of which I tell below, I tried to mount & aim the satellite TV tripod. The bus is parked under too much tree coverage for the auto-satellite to lock-on,...
