Jun 16, 2018 - Day 9
Day 9 20180616 0900-1800 453 miles, trip total 1665.7 miles. Overall, 9.987MPG, not bad pulling 2 trailers. Started out the day with adventure #10. When Kurt was taking his morning meds, one of the pills stuck to his hand and then dropped. Since he did not hear it fall he figured it must have landed on the carpet. Both of us looked for it until Kurt got fed up and decided to grab that pill from the others along. He did not want his cereal getting soggy. After taking the “extra” pill, Kurt ate his cereal. While eating his cereal, he found...Jump to full entry

Our next stop...Osceola, Iowa. It was going to be a long day so we got an early start. We ran through some rain showers as we were going through Oklahoma City and a little pick-up truck spun out of control right in front and beside us. Benny got as far on the shoulder in the right lane as he could as the pick-up bounced out of control into the center railing and back out into the left lane. I just knew we'd feel the impact into the side of the RV, but we didn't and then I expected he'd clip the car as we passed and he was still spinning out...Jump to full entry
Monday, June 16. Packed up and headed to Osceola, Iowa. Iowa is nicknamed the “Hawkeye State.” We had campsite reservations at the Lakeside RV campsite, located next to the Lakeside Casino and Hotel. Bill was having a very difficult time keeping the car/camper in our lane on the highway because the wind was so strong. The trees were blowing very hard and every time a large truck passed us, the car would swerve. A friend, Pat Ogrizovich, sent Karen a text message saying there was a tornado touching down in Nebraska and bad storms were in the...Jump to full entry
Dec 17, 2013 - Rolling South
The good news Tuesday morning was that the Clipper had moved through at a very good clip (as it were). We did have the promised fresh snow, but it was actually a clear, crisp morning. Given that this was a work day for normal people (it was December 16th after all), the roads had been plowed and salted by the time we headed out at 7:30 that morning. Within 5 miles of getting on the interstate heading south we came on a very sizable accident in the northbound lanes, with maybe 15 cars in the ditches and strewn about. Happily none of the...Jump to full entry
Jun 30, 2013 - Crossing the Mississippi - Again
Today was a two river day. We headed to Peoria this morning and after stopping at Wally World for some provisions, we crossed the Illinois River into Peoria. Caterpillar is the heart of the city with the headquarters and several plants in and around town. I have a little history with the Illinois River and this area. Way back when we lived in Schaumburg, IL, I did a lot of work on the upper Illinois River. I also spent some time in Pekin, IL a small town outside of Peoria. That was in the days when I was in the sewage sludge management...Jump to full entry
Oct 28, 2012 - At long last, here we are.
Sorry it has taken so long, but frankly, after driving all day I am beat. We left home a week ago Sat. The first day we made great time. All the way to Melvern, Kansas. About 590 miles. We got there only to find out the park we usually stay in was full. So, we drove to Eisenhower State Park. VERY nice park, with a site right on the water. Some of you may have seen it on facebook. Facebook, by the way, may be how I do a lot of posting. It is so much easier, and quicker than this. So, if you want to "be friends", send me a request. There will...Jump to full entry
Sep 17, 2012 - Summer is winding down.
Well, after a long, hot, wonderful summer, we are preparing to head south on Oct. 20th. We will be staying in Sedona, Az. for at least the first month. We have never been to the northern part of Az, so wanted to go before it gets too cold. We will head to the Sierra Vista, Az. area after that. Not real definite yet. We are seriously considering leaving the motorhome down there for the summer. We don't use it here (we use the teardrop when we camp) so there is no point in paying for all that gas. We will write more when we head out.Jump to full entry
Jun 24, 2012 - Osceola, IA
This was a long day of driving. We planned to stay overnight in Missouri. We did not see one RV park along I35 in Missouri. We drove off the highway to "Lewis and Clark State Park" which was closed. It was a shame...it is a beautiful park. We put in more hours of driving and stopped at "Terribles Casino and RV Park" in Osceola, IA. Nice Park with a small lake. Braxton fished a while and then a thunderstorm came through. We took showers and went to bed. Tomorrow ...... Minnesota.Jump to full entry
Dec 5, 2011 - Camping, karoake, celebrating.
Last Friday, Sue and I loaded up the jeep, hooked up the teardrop, and headed for our other lot. We finally get to go camping!!! We spent the afternoon burning some downed wood in a great campfire. We were listening to music, dancing around the fire, and generally just having a great time. Sue said she loves doing that, "cause it makes you feel useful". I agree. We roasted hot dogs (too much, cause it was dark) and had hot chocolate. It was a beautiful night, and as Sue said many times, "a really good idea". We crawled into our snuggly...Jump to full entry
Nov 26, 2011 - Go VIKINGS, no really please go.
I will start the entry with an apolgy for so little pictures. I used a different camera, and somehow lost most of them. Last Sat. morning Sue and I were having coffee, and I said,"looks like a good day to put up decorations". I had been at it for about half an hour, and it started to faintly snow. I asked Sue if she ordered it to set the mood. By the time it was done (about midnight) we had 8-11". It was beautiful! The only problem was Sue was going shopping, and the to the Madrigal Singers with Chris and Regan that night. She said the...Jump to full entry
Nov 14, 2011 - You're Doing What!!!!!
The time has come when I would normally be telling where we are going in the south for the winter. I am here to tell you, WE ARE STAYING HOME FOR THE WINTER!! Some people (including us sometime) think we are nuts, others are very excited that we are staying home. Yes, we discussed it all last winter, that we would stay til the holidays were over. I thought that if we stayed THAT long, we might as well give the winter a shot. So far, no regrets. The weather has been beautiful. One little snowfall. We have a very busy schedule (to keep me...Jump to full entry
