Dec 24, 2010 - Merry Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve Well, after telling me they were going to move Bob at 10:30, they finally got him into the ambulance at 2:30 this afternoon! They told me they just discovered an ulcer on the back of his head, so he will have a “wound” specialist for that. Doesn’t anyone practice general medicine any more??? The transport people were really nice and knowledgeable. I came back to the RV to take care of Weebles as it was going to be an hour before he was settled in the new place. He sure hates being alone – used to being with his daddy all...

Dec 23, 2010 - Moving tomorrow

12/23/10 Thursday – Bob is still very disoriented. The first thing he said when I got there this morning was “Weebles died”. I told him no, that he was fine. Then he said “he shiiiiiiit all over the floor”. They had a CT scheduled for him about 10 minutes after I got there, so I went ahead and drove down to Walmart to pick up a few things. Very hectic place. Bob will answer when I ask him questions like where he is (Midland) and when I mentioned Ben’s name he said “and Melissa” (his wife). But then he got mad at something and said I have to...

Dec 22, 2010 - Back on the Internet

12/22/10 – Wednesday Helps me put the day and date as all of these days are running together. Had a little excitement last night. About 2 am heard a loud ruckus in a neighborhood up the block. Lots of dogs barking wildly and it sounded like someone was being attacked by them. Lasted quite awhile and I didn’t see any other lights coming on in the neighborhood, but did see a couple flashlights after a bit. Stuck my head back in the window and went to sleep! Made a quick trip to the grocery store this morning before heading out to the...

Dec 21, 2010 - Another day, another step in the right direction

Tuesday 12/21 When I got to the hospital this morning the Internal Med doctor said they may be doing a PT assessment on him later to see if he could sit up for awhile. They also were going to do a swallow consult by OT, and were going to start alternating between the big oxygen mask and the one that just goes in your nostrils. I went to meet Biscuit and Luis from MARC so they could move the RV to the workshop grounds. There are 2 big metal buildings surrounded by a tall chainlink fence, and I’m parked behind one of the buildings. (I’m...

Dec 20, 2010 - Still hanging on

Monday 12/20 Pretty rough day. Bob is no longer responding to specific commands and they were having a hard time keeping his oxygen level where they want it. His temperature was still at 99.4 so that was good. Ben stopped by and we teamed up to give him some water. Ben would remove the oxygen mask and I would put spoonfuls of water in his mouth. We could only get about 4-5 spoons in and had to put the mask back on as his oxygen would drop below 89. Then would need to wait until it went back up to 93-94. The neurosurgeon (?) doctor came in...

Dec 19, 2010 - Off ventilator

Sunday 12/19/10 – Day 12 Went to the hospital about 10 and they had the ventilator tube out, with just an oxygen mask on Bob. He was pretty disoriented and I don’t think he knew who I was. He had been running a temp of 103 so they said his confusion might be due to the extended time on the ventilator and the fever. After awhile he was trying to talk but wasn’t really saying any words that could be understood. As time went on it sounded like he was hollering at me (although it didn’t sound like “Joy”, but I can tell when he yells at me !!)....

Dec 18, 2010 - Update

Saturday 12/18 – Today is my sweet daughter Lin’s birthday HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR Got very cold last night and the furnace (set at 60) came on several times. Woke up this morning to Weebles whining in the living room so I got up and let him out. Noticed later that it wasn’t in time as there was a large spot on the carpet. First time he’s done that (after not doing it all the times he’s been left alone). I sprayed with carpet cleaner and will work on it later. I feel like I’m coming down with a cold (all the in/out of hot/cold I think), so I’m...

Dec 17, 2010 - Oops, forgot to put 12/17 update on

Friday 12/17 – Went up to the hospital, but things were about the same. They had brought him out of sedation long enough to determine that he had feeling in hands and legs. They said he was running a slight temperature, and his oxygen wasn’t to a low enough level yet to take the ventilator off so they were just going to keep him sedated and try to take it out first thing Saturday morning. They said he may have a blood clot in his left arm and they were watching it carefully but didn’t think it would be a problem. Judie and Fran decided to...

Dec 16, 2010 - Great News

Surgery went well. Took a little longer because they had to make an incision in his leg to get the correct angle to the artery but doctor has every confidence it was successful. They will keep him on ventilator and sedated until tomorrow. Will post again tomorrow night. Thanks for all thoughts and prayers.

Dec 16, 2010 - Celebration Time

Thursday 12/16/10 Well, it was quite a day. We called up to the hospital about 8 and they said he was the same – temp was 98 point something. When we got up there it was a little higher but they still planned on surgery for 4:30. He was really swollen so the nurse weighed him, and he’s gained about 35-40 # since he went into the hospital. They assured us this was normal due to all the fluids they were pumping into him and that his kidneys were doing good. About 11 we went out and did a little shopping, and then went to a Chinese buffet near...

Dec 15, 2010 - Thursday is now D-Day

12/15/10 I had called hospital at 10 pm last night, and was told no surgery for today (Wednesday)...not sure why. Surgery now scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. Didn’t see doctor today. Bob’s sister and brother-in-law (Judie and Fran Beller) arrived from Tennessee right after lunch. Spent a little time at the hospital, then went to the RV to leave my car and we all drove back to the hospital together. Asked the nurse about whether Bob’s ring should be cut off, but he was able to get it off his poor swollen finger. He’s gained...

Dec 14, 2010 - Surgey postponed again

Tuesday 12/14 – No surgery today. Got a phone call on the way in this morning, and since I’m such a klutz with my cellphone when I’m driving, I couldn’t get it answered, but saw it was the hospital calling. When I finally got into town somewhere that I could pull over I ended up dropping the phone on the floor. Finally got VM dialed and it was the nurse telling me that they needed me to sign the consent form before they could do surgery. This was about 6:50 and surgery scheduled for 7:30 am. I was only about 10 minutes from hospital so just...
