TRAVELED THRU IOWA IN THE RAIN TO THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND THE TOWN OF LA CLAIRE. WENT TO ANTIQUE ARCHEOLOGY , HOME OF AMERICAN PICKERS. SMALL OLD GARAGE IN TOWN OVERLOOKING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. NO ONE FROM SHOW WAS THERE. NOT MUCH TO SEE OTHER THAN OLD MOTORCYCLE PARTS AND THE USUAL COFFEE MUGS WITH THERE PICTURE . A BIT DISAPPOINTING , OH WELL , WE DIDN'T DRIVE OUT OF OUR WAY.

We continued east today covering a lot of ground, but not without stopping to see the home of the show American Pickers. We were rather disappointed. The place was small and nothing but a bunch of old overpriced junk and none of the TV show personalities were even there. Oh well! We did discover where all the Ethanol comes from for our gas. The entire state of Iowa is nothing but a huge corn field everywhere you look in addition to lots and lots of soy fields also. I have never seen so much corn in my life. Every farm has nice new looking...

Jun 17, 2011 - Crossing River To Explore Some Iowa Points Of Interest

From Geneseo Campground – Geneseo, IL Headed across the river into Iowa today looking for the boyhood homestead of a future Wild West Showman, a museum named after him and to locate the “widest” point of the Mississippi River. On our way GyPSY Jill took us through the small town of Fulton sitting on the Illinois side of the river and I suddenly remembered reading about the town’s windmill………so right off we encountered a detour! Home Sweet RV - 2011

Jul 26, 2008 - Stage 7- Tipton, IA to LeClaire, IA......53-miles and 1,835 feet of climb

By now we have it down to a science….up at 5:45….granola bar, banana, water, ibuprofen and spandex….on the road by 6:10. The soreness is finally gone….except where we sit…..we have an incredible day to ride the final miles to the Mississippi river. Today we have an incredible average speed over the final leg….not Tour de France incredible….but two old guys on old bikes incredible. Sean is not with us today…..he did survive the night….really sore….but is going to ride with his son for the first 10 miles to give him the experience……knowing he...
