Sep 17, 2012 - OTRA - IA - Kellogg

Kellogg RV Park is another campground where we stayed in 2008 on our first trip westward. It’s on a hill behind Iowa’s Best Burgers and one night Bob and I decided to check out these “best burgers”. They were good, indeed, but they aren’t the best we’ve had. Of course, I don’t remember having any other burgers in Iowa so perhaps they ARE Iowa’s best burgers. The first time we were here, there was only one other camper in the campground but this time it’s pretty full. Some are ones who stayed after the race at the speedway just down the...

Sep 12, 2012 - spitting nails

After spending six hours at Camping Word getting the new washer/dryer installed even though we were told it was a less than two hour job, we headed farther east. The wind continues to plague us as cold front comes through promising some much needed rain relief to this dry area. We got to the campground and Ken pushed the jack button and the jacks came down. He has tried this off and on about twenty times since they failed six weeks ago. We are headed to the factory tomorrow to get them fixed. How will they fix what is no longer broken? We...

Aug 17, 2012 - State of Iowa

The trip through Iowa was uneventful, not much to see there. It is a pretty state with large corn and soybean fields, nice farms and very neat towns. We stayed at two different campgrounds, the first one was interesting. It was a community of about 500 families, most owned their spots. There was water and lights but no sewer! Most of them had tanks on small trailers to take care of business and I guess the others used a service of some kind. There was a dump station in the park. Also there was a gate arm going and coming and the lady who...

Go West Trip 2012

Jul 30, 2012 - Corn fields & drought

July 30, 2012 Today we resumed our journey west, passing thru Illinois on the way to our campground in Kellogg, Iowa. This was the beginning of our route across the drought stricken Midwest. The heat was intense, skies clear with no hint of rain, and the landscapes brown. We drove past thousands of acres of parched corn. We are really looking forward to the lush green forests of Glacier and Waterton. By day’s end we were settled into our campsite at a neat little campground alongside the interstate in Kellogg. There were no fences, only...

Jun 19, 2012 - Iowa

19Jun12 - We have arrived at Kellogg, Iowa. It was a long windy drive and scenery consisted mostly of rolling green hills, farms of corn and cows. We are staying at the Kellogg RV Park who have been in business for 25 years. The Kellogg RV Park and Iowa’s Best Burger Café are family owned and operated. We will let you all know later if the name lives up to the burger later! Well we had the Iowa's best burger and sadly it did not live up to the name. It was your basic frozen patty without any flavor what so ever. The bun was toasted and the...

May 1, 2012 - Kellogg, IA

Due to our unplanned stop at the Freedom Rock, we arrived at our overnight stop, the Kellogg RV Park and Iowa's Best Burgers Cafe, a little later than we had planned. At least that's the excuse we made for not fixing dinner and checking out the cafe. We are glad we did - they were pretty darn yummy! Amazing how the two women fixed the food in this tiny little kitchen area; the place was packed when we finished dinner and they were steadily cooking and filling orders. We were glad of the walk back to the coach!

Oct 15, 2011 - On the road - take 2!!

Now we are REALLY back on the road! Early Saturday morning (45 degrees) we headed east on I-80 holding our breath. We traveled through the rest of Nebraska and ended up at the Kellogg RV Park in South Kellogg, Iowa. We saw a LOT of corn and wheat, farmers harvesting their crops, MORE wind turbines and in Desoto, IA passed the town in which Marion Robert Morrison (you all know him by his screen name - can you guess it?) was born. No time to go see it today but we will do so on a return visit! We traveled 414 miles today.

May 9, 2011 - Goshen IN to Kellogg IA

We met Cookie & Charlie Green and Bob & Ruth Exler for breakfast at LUX in Goshen, IN this morning. Only place I ever ate that gives you double the amount of eggs you order. Got the coach loaded and slides in so that we could leave around 10:20 a.m. Marvin drove until we were around Chicago, IL. We stopped in Minooka, IL for diesel at the Pilot/Flying J. We got 10.68 miles to the gallon on that fill. Best ever to date. Price $4.069 with the RV discount. When we were in Goshen, unleaded cost more than diesel per gallon--like it should have...

Jul 13, 2009 - such a deal

So the technician took one look at our hitch and shook his head. He showed us things that were loose and corroded and said that replacing all the parts that needed to be replaced would cost about $300. So the $25 refurbishment deal turned into the purchase of a brand new hitch. Are we we suckers or what? Now, if our car comes loose and passes us on the expressway, the hitch will be guaranteed. We feel much safer now. And our stay at the Blue Ox campground was free. Such a deal. So, to get our money's worth we took the free factory tour....

Jun 16, 2009 - Kellogg RV Campground

Well we had another short trip today and have ended up at Kellogg RV park in Kellogg, Iowa. It is right next to the I-80 expressway and we can almost reach out and touch the trucks as they go by. I think we were set up by 2:00pm and a casino was only about 30 miles down the expressway so we had to give it a try. Joanne did terrible and I did very well. I kept getting bonuses and won about $70.00. This campground does not have WiFi so I will have to post this later when we get to the next stop in Mitchell, SD. When Joanne checked in at the...

May 18, 2009 - to Kellogg IA; ? CG

40351 to start the day. Today we drove 417 miles to Kellogg, Iowa. The 2 rear driver's side tires have been losing a little air. We had air put in them at Petro, and will probably have to put air in them again tomorrow. I think that the valve stems need replaced. Shirley broke the TV antennae cable tonight and is mad that I won't let her on the roof. The RV is still running fine. The cruise control worked except for about an hour. The only thing I had done was shut the engine off for a while. I don't know what the problem is.
